Overview
Mickey Mousecapade is a platformer developed by Hudson Soft. It was published for the Famicom in Japan in 1987 by Hudson Soft, and published by Capcom for the Nintendo Entertainment System in the United States in 1988. The game follows the adventures of Disney mascot Mickey Mouse, and his girlfriend Minnie Mouse, as they attempt to rescue Alice from the Disney movie "Alice in Wonderland".
Gameplay
The player guides Mickey through the Fun House, the Forest, the Pirate Ship, and finally the Castle. Combat includes Mickey tossing stars at enemies such as snakes and spiders. Mickey can refill portions of his health bar by collecting diamonds that are available throughout the levels.
Localization
Capcom made a number of changes to the game before its sale to the American audience. The Japanese version dealt primarily with characters and elements taken from Alice in Wonderland; the US version of the game introduces more characters from the Disney universe, replacing Cheshire Cat with Witch Hazel as the game's first boss, and introducing enemies from The Jungle Book, Sleeping Beauty, the Country Bear Jamboree, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The Capcom-published game employs diamonds as a means of replenishing Mickey's life bar, whereas players of the original game would collect the head of Donald Duck to return back to full health. Also, Mickey shoots white balls in the Japanese version of the game, while our hero shoots stars in the US release.
