The Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC) is newer and much larger than the John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center where the inaugural PAX East was held. The new site features 516,000 square feet of floor space plus dozens of meeting rooms, and a 40,000 square foot ball room.
The keynote speaker for PAX East 2011 was Jane McGonigal.
Boston Indie Showcase
The Boston Indie Showcase is held annually at PAX East. Games included in the showcase are chosen by Penny Arcade staff and a panel of industry professionals. To qualify, teams/companies must be in the Boston area and have less than 15 employees.
The Omegathon is a semi-annual tournament held at PAX that pits 20 or more randomly selected attendees in a three day marathon of games that span the spectrum of the gaming universe. After each round, some participants are eliminated. Each year, the final game is held secret until moments before the final two Omeganauts enter battle. At PAX East, the tournament features teams of two that stay together through to the end of the Omegathon.
As opposed to previous years, there were no concert wristbands given out Friday and Saturday morning. The concerts' attendance were held on a first come first served basis.
