This looks great and I really want to play it but I'm going to wait until the game's story content is reviewed. That first trailer's words echoed narratives used by transphobic and xenophobic politicians (without much in the way of irony). Despite being called out for it, there was no apology or even acknowledgement from the developers if I've recalled correctly.

So we'll see if the man-children behind the trailer wanted attention and were subsequently scared off from going in that direction (or mis-represented the crux of the story), or if the developers are indeed telling a shitty, thinly veiled 'fictional story' underneath it all. Cause if so they can rot in the hell of their own making. Hah, see! Aren't thinly veiled digs the FUNNIEST and SMARTEST and most SURREPTITIOUSly ineffectual?

Anyway, I'll be disappointed if I'm not able to play it but, you know, there are plenty of games not comparing me to a demon so I guess I'll just play them instead...

@rorie Just wanted to note that I'm voting for Astroneer in my list. Even though the site has its early access release dates, it went to 1.0 in early 2019. I presume it's one of those 'edge cases' so just pointing it out in case it gets lost in the shuffle!

This played on Infinite last night and wow... this was just the type of meditative stream that I needed before bed. Walls or cacophonies of noise can be so relaxing to me, even if they are as silly as this. Wonder if we'll see its likes again, given Jeff is now a dad. I need more Max Headroom/Over the Edge/Old Games mash-up streams but very glad this exists.

Could anyone please identify the track at 3:28:00? It'd be much appreciated! It's lovely, dreamy and catchy. I want it.

STILL WANT IT! Please help. It has been over 5 months. Can offer £0.01. Thank you.

That was great, loved it! As much as I now hate referring to the work of noted transphobe Graham Linehan (whose actions inspired the well-publicised Hbomberguy Donkey Kong stream for the trans/non-binary/gender non-conformance charity Mermaids last year, as mentioned on the Bombcast/Beastcast), as a person who grew up in an Irish catholic family, Father Ted is/was amazing and, I swear, during the 20 Questions finale that Abby was channelling the fantastic Mrs Doyle.

@sethmode:

A slew of games were attacked for this. God of war didn't have enough women, and then it did, but they all died and or had to be killed, and then why is god of war so focused on masculinity, it's everything that's bad in this world and what not.

Nier was immediately and rudely put down because of a pantie shot. But Greg's crotch, constantly thrown at you in dream daddy, wasn't an issue, wasn't sexist etc. It just becomes intellectually dishonest. It's like praising obesity all of a sudden, saying we are brave for it, but not doing the same with anorexia at the same time.

I'm sticking to my guns. This isn't about Abby, this is about taking a stand and being able to filter the artistical expressions from personal convictions.

God of War has never really had any love for women - they're pretty much all treated horrifically. In fact, I think the only time there wasn't violence against women in a God of War game was Ascension - which I believe, coincidentally, was the only one not written by Cory Barlog or David Jaffe and was written exclusively by a woman. Now it's back to Cory Balrog helming the series and we're back to the violence against women that was, as far as I'm aware, missing from Ascension. I guess it really is just a coincidence.

Also, it's 'Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Simulator' and it's not 'Nier:AutomatA - An Upskirting Simulator'. I think you should know going in from that title that there are sexual themes given that it is a dating simulator. One relates to queer guys, written from a queer perspective, being somewhat horny; another relates to a young woman (or android with the appearance of a young woman), directed and written by a middle-aged man, having an achievement/trophy associated with attempting to upskirt her no less than 10 times. That same middle-aged man also 'jokingly' asked for a ZIP file of fan art of said upskirting.

I mean, non-consensual upskirting is a crime in the UK, India, a number of states in the US, Australia and New Zealand. Other countries too. Spain is facing calls to change their laws after a recent arrest.

If you cannot see the false comparisons here then I do not think you are ever going to get why the glorification of such acts, almost always by men, are a problem to some people.

Some of us who are women don't want to be confronted with the choice of sexism in our video games when we want to escape from the realities of it in our everyday lives. Abby rightly pointed out that Disco Elysium gives the player that choice, Ben pointed out that you can reject those ideas, and then they moved on rather quickly. I am glad Abby mentioned it. This is the stuff, as a woman, I want to know before going into a game. Just like knowing the Nier stuff allowed me to make the choice to not play Nier. And yet you still have a problem with how that discourse went?

I'm in shock that Dicey Dungeons didn't even get a mention for best music or best style.

Obviously there weren't enough people pulling for the game in general, with it seeming as if Abby was the only person to have actually played it, but the presentation is amazing and the soundtrack is even better, it's my soundtrack of the year - and I generally hate chiptune stuff! I couldn't even stick on a podcast or video in the background (even though it's a game suited to that) because I wanted to listen to the music - it's so damn funky!

I don't care if it won or was in the top 3, just would be great to see it get the recognition. But, anyway, I recommend it if you're looking for something that's brimming with a relentless, upbeat energy. Near impossible to not nod my head along to when above a certain volume.

Reminds me of a how I felt re: Subserial Network not being in contention for best style and soundtrack last year (another incredible, under-the-radar soundtrack I recommend), but at least Dicey Dungeons actually got a mention during the recap I guess.

Hey Rich. You opened up this kid's mind to a whole other world of video games when I watched On the Spot some 15 years ago, so I implore you to open your mind to the Outer Wilds.

It seems like you may not have realised what's going on and you're getting frustrated by trying to play this like a traditional video game?

Give yourself a good hour when you get a chance and... just get out there and discover with your ship. Just do it. Everything will become clear if you just trust in the more egalitarian principles and practices of discovery being how one moves themselves forward while disavowing yourself of the traditional constraint of 'saving' as a marker of your progress.

I know that all sounds real pretentious and cryptic but it's true and I just don't want to give anything away because I'd hate to rob you of the position that I think you're in right now - of which I'm actually quite envious and never had!
