Great list! Astro Bot was definitely the biggest surprise for me. I was very skeptical of VR just a year ago and that game convinced me to buy a PSVR (which I'm very happy with). Really great platformer and great use of the tech. I need to spend more time with Tetris Effect in VR, what I played of it was cool.

Nice list! I wish Octopath Traveler had grabbed me more, I found it kind of dull. A lot of my favorites on this list though, namely Slay the Spire and Into the Breach.

Fantastic list Slag! You already know my thoughts on a lot of these from my list. That top 3 in particular: two big thumbs up from me. I'll have to put Fire Emblem Echoes on my radar now, I completely forget about that game. I also love the character art from what I've seen, but it's good to hear the gameplay holds up too. I'm currently playing Metroid: Samus Returns and I bought Uncharted: The Lost Legacy last week, so I'm excited to spend more time with those two games in the next few weeks.

Great list! Lots of overlap between the two of our lists like you mentioned. Pyre didn't quite appeal to me as much as Bastion and Transistor, but I still enjoyed its world and of course Supergiant's art and music is always top notch. Also interesting to see Getting Over It on here. I only tried it very briefly, but watching people play that thing is endlessly entertaining to me.

Nice list! I totally predicted that top 3, in that exact order. Nice to see Divinity: OS2 and Night in the Woods get some love here. Also, play more Nioh!

Cool, we have the same top 3 (though in a different order). Also nice to see XCOM 2: War of the Chosen get some love on this list, it's a fantastic expansion to one of my favorite games of 2016. The three new factions in particular are a lot of fun to use.

@majormitch: Thanks for checking my list out! Now I'm really curious to see yours and the similarities between the two, I'll keep an eye out for it.

@slag: Thanks for the kind words! Apparently you, MajorMitch, and I all have impeccable taste in games. 2017 has definitely been an insanely impressive year for games. Here is this great list of games and then I still have ones like Assassin's Creed Origins, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Metroid: Samus Returns that I still need to finish or even start. I'm definitely looking forward to your list if you get around to it, I really enjoyed reading your 2016 one last year.

Five great games that I enjoyed immensely. Every time I think of What Remains of Edith Finch I remember the moment with Lewis working in the cannery. It probably won't get a lot of mentions, but that's one of the standout moments of 2017 for me.

The first game on this list is maybe my favorite of all time. Shameful! I feel like most of my list would be games from the 90s I missed out on because of my dedication to JRPGs. Oh, and as someone who came to Symphony of the Night very late (2014), that game still holds up. Glad I knocked that one off my pile of shame.

Awesome list dude, I really enjoyed reading it! Big thumps up on the top six games in particular, those were some of my favorites as well. Man, Tokyo Mirage Sessions just makes me even more excited for Persona 5 and I didn't think that was possible.
