Why does that versatility mean anything? If anything that's the problem because most issues on the PC come out of a lack of standardization. That is why Steam is so popular and frankly good because it is a standard of PC gaming in what it does.
Is the post you are quoting correct? Not entirely but he's on the right track. It's just on a game-by-game basis that it applies. Also what "we" are you referring to? Certainly not me, because I've been placing PC games since the PS2 launched.
