I am really curious about him, he has such a professional, calm and collected image but then for a brief moment (Imola 2021) we saw a window into a different side of him. I mean, he caused a very dangerous crash, took it out on dazed Bottas, doubled down later and to top it all off he never really apologised. It supports my expert theory that he is secretly an evil mastermind intent on taking over the (F1) by any means necessary. I hope it is so at least, it would be so much fun to have a villain at the front!

This is so weird to me, when they left GB I was expecting Nextlander to be the ones trying new exciting things while GB continued to work within their cosy comfort zone but it has turned out to be the opposite. I’m glad that both exist though!

Using one of your examples, I do remember the first time I realized that you could walk around a corpse in Quake and see it from all angles (as opposed to a sprite) and being blown away. And then on top of that, seeing it all with 3D acceleration was quite something! That whole 3D acceleration era was really fun and impressive for me.

Another slightly earlier one was seeing Virtua Fighter in an arcade for the first time (and then Virtua Racing), it was soooo smooth in 3D, my mind was blown.

That being said, it is interesting to think of how early 3D elements were being introduced to games and what constitutes 3D in the first place. Games like Stunt Car Racer, Hard Drivin’, Star Fox, that FX chip SNES driving game all had 3D in them. I don’t think I knew that what I was looking at was significant but it did look somehow different. I still have a fondness for the low poly flat shaded look that seems to be back in fashion at the moment.

I’m sorry, I realize that I am rambling, a lot of nostalgia in this subject for me!

@zombiepie: Hey, that’s why I said it’s my fault, I am blaming myself more than anyone.

I always watch races after the fact, because I am not able to watch live and on the day of the race avoid any racing and news websites (like the ones you mentioned). I only visit GB and one more gaming website (RPS) because they are usually spoiler free spaces. You are right, there is no hard rule about it but I am just asking for a bit of consideration next time, just skipping the result on the title.

Thank you gtxforza for changing this by the way. It was still a fun race, the way the whole thing went I thought you were maybe joking on that forum title (until the safety car came out)!

@gtxforza: Hey, I know this is my fault for not turning off my phone completely today bit please keep in mind next time that some people don't watch live and you know, reading the result of the final race on a forum post title on the front page of Giantbomb of all places before watching, kinda sucks.

Your question made me think of Enslaved but it might be more combat heavy than Kena. I second Beyond Good and Evil as well, it’s very good although I am not sure how it has aged.

nostalgia does not allow me to see this objectively, it’s the first one for me.

I also watched Dune and I though it was fantastic. I know it is not the thing to say at the moment considering the pandemic but this is one of those, better at the cinema ones I think. One of the reasons is the music which I thought was incredible and very much reflecting the modern/ancient aesthetic of the whole thing.

One question: did anyone think that some of the shots in the film were references to the games? I know it’s dumb but that shot of silos needing to be filled gave me isometric strategy vibes but maybe I am reading too much into it.

@gtxforza: not sure why you are doubting it but if you must know I have played FM games, the last one being 7. Hence my question, what makes GT games different.

To be honest I was hoping that GT would have some sort of connecting tissue between the racing that would propel you through the game. I thought that FM7 was really lacking in that department. I don’t mean a narrative necessarily, just some sort of foundation so that you can build your narratives

on top. I thought that GT games had some sort of license system but I don’t know if it’s still in there.

The car and track differences don’t really do it for me as I think they have more than enough in there already. I would actually prefer less cars as it’s a bit overwhelming.

Thank you for pointing out the differences though!

Uninformed question alert: I have never played a GT game. The driving disciplines and more simulationy feel seems similar to Forza Motorsport but do they do anything different and/or interesting with the structure of the game? I guess the actual question is, what makes a GT game a GT game and not a FM game?
