There are probably more that I am forgetting. So yeah, if you say that there is lack of GOOD games you are just stupid, if you say that not even one of these games interests you then just don't buy it! The online community is not as big though, but you don't have to pay for it !
Games can be very addictive, specially if you have an addictive personality. Although I think this tends to happen much more often with MMOs. The reason being that you are constantly comparing yourself with other thousands of players, and if you put enough time into the game ( read ALLOT of time ) you can become "better" then them. With enough time you can actually achieve something in the game, where IRL it's much harder to accomplish anything, and this is where the addiction kicks in. The thing is with MMOs you get much more obsessed and it can very literally ruin your life ( www.wowdetox.com ), while with single player games I think you are not as much "escaping" as you are distracting yourself from your problems. Both things are "bad" if not taken in moderation, and if you think you are playing too much as a means of ignoring whats going on in your life then you should take a break from it, as IMO it's definitely not healthy :).
That being said, I would never use Gears of War as a means of escapism, I think that game is not an "absorbing" experience at all :P But this comes down to personal taste of course !
"Demon's Souls - Fuck you, you fucking game. Games are meant to be fun! And there is a difference between hard and cheap/frustrating "
Demon's Souls is fun, and it's far from cheap. If you die, it was your own fault, not the games fault. "
I'm sorry, but working my way through a whole level facing the difficult ( but fair ) combat, only to reach a boss that you couldn't possibly know how to beat that kills you immediately, isn't exactly my fault, and having to repeat the level all over again just to reach the boss and die once more because the way I thought I should beat him is the wrong way is just fucking stupid. Don't give me the " if you die it's your fault " because that's just not true. And the bosses are not the only cheap way to die..the controls are so floaty that people are always falling of edges and stuff like that. The game needs checkpoints, or you need to be masochist in order to progress. This is just my opinion though. "
Well considering every level has a shortcut that you unlock that leads you right to the boss from the start of the level, no you don't have to redo the level if you die at the boss. The games not cheap, at all. Just because you suck at it doesn't mean the controls suck and the game is cheap. "
And just because you don't find it cheap doesn't mean it isn't.

Darksiders - I just didn't like it. It was unoriginal, illogical and boring in my opinon. ( although I was enjoying it at first )

World of Warcraft - While I absolutely love the game, but after about 1 year playing it I should have stopped, but I didn't and that certainly did not help my life in general.
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light - I bought it on PSN thinking that I would be able to play with some friends, but the online coop doesn't exist yet :(
@anarchyzombie9: So you don't condemn what people do to Dolphins and seals and other animals (Aka beating them to death) so that they can just get some good meat or skin?
@nintendoeats : If you don't think the cat is suffering then just hang in there for a while and take good care of the poor animal. He is old and probably won't be living much longer, so I think you should make an effort and at least give some good comfort and care to the animal before he dies. I wish I had spent more time petting mine before she passed away :(
No game can make you care about a character. Games can have good overall stories and well-made worlds, but they just can't make you care for a character like a movie does. ( this is my personal opinion of course )
Also, I've come to accept Invisible Walls or "uncrossable obstacles that even a baby could cross", but I still hate them :P
