I had a conversation with Rich Gallup at PAX one year and he did not believe I looked old enough to have been watching and listening to this and On The Spot.
Ben assassinated so many games during the discussions to reduce the competitors for Disco Elysium. I agree with Brad that Cadence of Hyrule was cruelly shoved out of categories. I would have countered the variety and anti-remix arguments during the music discussions with the Lost Swamp track, it is one of Danny's favorites and it is not based on an existing Zelda theme.
Also ironic that the Necrodancer style run mode this staff wanted got patched in after these discussions
I think this is a safe sequel because Alien: Colonial Marines and Battleborn failed to land and back in 2016 everyone just wanted to know when the next Borderlands was coming, which they were not working on at the time Battleborn came out but staffed up for once it was clear that Battleborn was not going to be their next big thing.
But feeling out of date with current trends might be just as risky so we will have to see.
The thing about Zaeed is that you don't get the full conversation dialog with him but he has something to say after every mission unlike the rest of your crew who run through their set of dialogs.
If you do all the DLC and Companion missions you will frequently run into situations where your party members haven't triggered their next conversation steps but Zaeed literally never did not have something to say to me about the last mission and I appreciated that.
I think the other DLC character also works this way but I've never got her early so I'm not sure.
Oh I totally missed that EA finally packaged the DLC for the sequels together at a discount on Origin. They were at their full Bioware Point prices for so long.
I always thought about replaying on PC and I own the base games since I got the PC version of ME3 as part of the SimCity debacle. And ME2 is frequently $5. But due to the DLC pricing I never ended up doing the playthroughs.
This DLC definitely takes place after the main game. There is a certain character that calls you a few times to discuss stuff that happened at the end of the main game, there are also a few other references to the main game’s plot here and there.
It doesn’t spoil most of the plot but I would probably still hold off on this if you haven’t finished the main game.
I was playing this a bit over the weekend. I think the tutorials / training mode is really lacking compared to some recent fighting games, you get some basic tutorials in the Libre of Souls mode but the only character specific stuff seems to be text. I really wish they just had some rudimentary combo challenges for each character.
As Dan said I think the Libre of Souls mode seems to get better the further you get into it, there are surprising number of systems in place, though the presentation of everything is a bit lacking.
Similarly Soul Chronicle seems like it kinda wants to be like a NetherRealms or Tekken 7 style story mode but on a way lower budget.
Graphically I think it looks like a last-gen game. Some of the environments look nice but Injustice 2 was also Unreal 4 and it looks way way better.
The character creator seems pretty rad though, you can do some real dumb stuff with it.
I'm hemming and hawing about this, it is the first CoD I haven't had on Day 1 since the first one. The lack of Campaign really lowers my interest level. I played a bit of the beta and it was alright. I can never get my friends to buy one of these so Zombies co-op doesn't really appeal to me.
Blackout is kinda neat but it doesn't have the weekly challenge stuff that hooked me with Fortnite, it feels like they need to flesh out the meta-game a lot.
So yeah with all the other stuff I could playing right now I'll probably skip this for the moment unless they start adding some really interesting stuff.
