If you play on the hardest difficulty setting the combat gets borderline ridiculous. Everything has immunity (80% resistance to damage) and you'll stand there shooting the same guy for 30 seconds. You usually don't even have to use cover, you can just stand there and hold the trigger down until the guy dies. I like how ME2 is more of a shooter in that respect as on insane difficulty I actually still have to use tactics.
Seriously, I couldn't even get my power armor cause the quest got glitched and I can't talk to the brotherhood; same with the EDI-E quest. I looked on the forums and they said use console commands or whatever but fuck that, why do I have to work around the broken game.
Without getting into any technical stuff, a CPU does one task at a time. It does each task fast, but that's the problem, it can only do one task at a time. With a dual or quad core each core is able to work on a task in parallel. Of course a lot of it is program dependent. There is specific work programmers have to do to make a program more efficient with multiple cores. For example, one thing programmers can do is make the program run on multiple threads and that will speed things up because the processor will assign each thread to a different core.
