wits are not as useful as you may think they are. the game enforces that you must take a turn, and then an enemy, and then you, and then an enemy when the combat begins. you can't load your characters with wits and have them all get turns before any enemy does, the game does not work that way. summons are nice because they act on the turn immediately after getting summoned.

make sure you edit your party's formation in the escape menu. if you don't separate them, they begin all combat clumped together and often the first thing that will happen is they all get aoe'd to heck. this made things SO MUCH EASIER

if either of these things are true: 1. you have moved a soldier this turn or 2. you are fighting some aliens, try your best to explore as little of the fog of war as possible. did you move your first unit up and not reveal any aliens? great! don't move past them. if you're in a fight the worst thing that you can do is venture up through the unexplored fog of war for that juicy flank and reveal another pod of aliens. now here's some random tactical tidbits:

- a unit that is in full cover that has been hunkered down has 80 defense, that's -80% chance to be hit, and they cannot be hit critically if they are hunkered

- there is an aim multiplier of .7 on any overwatch shot. low level soldiers + overwatch = useless garbage shooting

- aliens get a .6 multiplier on their overwatch shot if they're shooting a dashing soldier (a soldier that is making a yellow move)

- abuse the height advantage aim bonus when you get the chance to. you can actually get rookies to hit things if you do this

- there is another innate aim bonus for being close to an enemy. want to get 100% chance shots in the early game? stick that gun in the aliens face from one tile away. keep in mind that enemies also get a proximity aim bonus in this game (in xcom2 only xcom gets the proximity bonus)

Having finally finished up my ironman legendary playthrough (through many delays and much crashing), I feel like I have cemented my thoughts on this thing. I love this expansion, but it didn't fix any of what I perceived to be XCOM 2's problems. It just threw a whole heap of cool shit on top of a shaky base, and somehow it all holds together. L/I is still too easy just like the base game, nowhere near the insane challenge of XCOM EW I/I that I was looking for, but still a fun ride.

it feels like exactly what your parents/grandma/random 'cultured' adult imagined all games must be like. just hours of mindless robot shooting with a story that is impossible to care about, and some numbers go up, and you drink red bull and eat pop tarts for some hot exclusives

i mean it's probably pretty cool for someone who's like 13 but it does leave me thinking i could probably find a better use for my time

You can blow through inverted castle in a few hours even if you're not familiar with it, so don't be intimidated and think that it will be very long. Besides, how can it be the end of a Castlevania game if you didn't kill Dracula???
