You've very nearly sold me on this one, Dan. I dunno. I might have to give this one a shot, but there's so much else coming down the line that I think I should spend my money on sure-things rather than an RE game I'm not sure I'd like.

I LOVE the old RE games, and I'm not a big fan of first-person jump scares that seem to be prevailent in this game. I know you mentioned it's not prolific, but that kind of thing feels cheaply effective -- meaning, I do really feel scared by them or by the anticipation of them, but it's never a "good" scare, it's frustrating.

Anyway, the parts that really perked my ears up were the notion that it holds close to the old RE games, with save rooms and storage chests and limited ammo. But how much does puzzle solving come in to play? Because THAT was a big element of the old RE games. Is it just key-item collecting, or do you actually need to sit and work on a puzzle at any point?

I think you have Alex's hotmail email address visible on the Steam page at one point. Dunno if that's a problem or if that address is public. It is now!

@dr_mel: A big thing with the Yakuza, as I understand it, is that they essentially get to run their protection racket, own companies, be chummy with politicians, and do all manner of shady shit with little official censure, but their side of the bargain is to keep their crews in line. Guns (and murder in general) is way too loud for them.

That's mostly true - gangs do get into fights but it usually involves swords and bats at the most. However, in 2015 there was a big shakeup within Yamaguchi-gumi, Japan's biggest yakuza group, with several new rival groups now running around on their own. There's been a few shootings since then and members have been found beaten to death. I wanted to visit Kabukicho, the red-light district that Yakuza's Kamurocho is based on (near-identically!), and people were warning me not to stick around past 9PM. I didn't go in the end, but I'd like to someday, even if things are dicey.

Neat. Thanks for the info, guys.

@heatdrive88: Good point. I don't know much about Yakuza (the game or the real thing) but I figured a mafia-type organization might have some guns or not be too worried about their legality.

Why doesn't anyone just shoot you when you leave the family? Because videogames? Or is that like a legit yakuza thing?
