I really liked the new crew and was hopeful for GB's future but I guess was wrong. Cancelled my sub.

I love FFVIII for that reason too, the amnesia orphanage stuff is also so effing dumb.

Recently Tales of Arise really worked out for me. It's all the clichés of animes in one all out crazy package. It's very dumb and very honest and has a all the emotions, I love it.

Otherwise, Ghost Trick's story is absolutely absurd but the game owns it so well that it's amazing. I highly recommend it.

Me and my friends played a lot, A LOT, of World of Darkness RPGs using the basic rules just to play humans. You can look at stuff for like Trail of Chtullu and the Gumshoe detective system, or even something like Fiasco. Again, those are very much inspired by "genres" fiction, ie. cops shows, murder mysteries or horror. But they serve for a great introduction for more "mundane" TTRPGs setting. My old group did end up playing very mundane themed TTRPGs, it's very much possible and can be interesting.

I feel a lot of the issues is how we see conflicts, most video games and movies are often about people fighting, but look recently at stuff like Disco Elysium or Citizen Sleeper, those are very much TTRPGs inspired and while they are not in a mundane settings, a lot of their stories could be transposed to one. There's plenty of good stories to be told in mundane settings, but it is a little harder to set up because you can't just invent conflicts and treasure out of nowhere by making a bunch of goblins appear or something.

@topcyclist: Your profile does not accept DM from people you do not follow.

You can find a link for my games work in my about section of my profile, I won't post it here to not spam.

Again I'm not a typical "dev" in that I'm very much an amateur, I only have one free game released on Steam and while I got ongoing projects that are "funded", they're still short narrative games, not something as big as a Slay the Spire (which I effing love).

I feel like PS+ games will get very different results than most games, them being free for all audience and all, I think a lot of players will just launch everything to look and not play it as soon as they realize it's not their "style".

I dunno that it is the thing that should discourage a dev. I personally get more discouraged seeing how much stuff comes out on Steam every day, while I released a free game that did fairly well, getting an audience for a paid thing seems like more of an issue to me. But then I make very small games that can be completed quickly, so completion rates won't be the issue.

You'll probably get very difference responses depending on what the devs' games look like, I think, but I'm sure it's an interesting conundrum for AAA studios.

There's a TON of them on mobile but I've found that most of them are far from the quality of Slay the Spire.

I'd recommend both Meteorfall and its sequel (Krumit's Tale) though (which is both on Steam and on phones). It's 50% off right now, I don't think it's the best one of those but it's an interesting take on the concept.

Fire Emblems Three Houses is the closest I can think of, and other games in the Fire Emblem series do try some similar stuff.

Wildermyth too, if you’re on PC.

As a dev it’s always something I wanted to do, a RPG with modular character relationships, but I’m far from having that level of budget.

Got the first ending today, I don't think I will go for more secrets. After a while I've found that navigating the world was a chore, and while I enjoyed figuring out the secrets and secrets mecanics, going back and finding where to use your new abilities, especially with enemies constantly respawning, was no fun.

Also this game didn't need to be a souls like and be hard as it is. There's two boss fights in particular that made me more frustrated than anything in Elden Ring. It's not as hard, but it does not feel great and one of those fight has the camera wildly turning to try to keep up.

https://nzxt.com/ Are pretty well regarded and I personally had a good experience with them, but they're premium and even their lowest performing PC will be pretty expensive I think.
