2020 is almost over and I think the only 2020 release I played was the C&C remaster.

MMO's I've played

MMO games are incredibly interesting in concept, though rarely so in implementation. These are the MMO's I've tried.

List items

  • Played a couple of hours of it when it went free to play circa 2005.

  • Technically, this may not really be an MMO, though like Guild Wars, it's there balancing on the line.

  • I've played a chunk of it on PC and PS3, mostly PS3 though.

Both before and after it went free to play.

  • This didn't grab me at all. Didn't seem to really do anything interesting with the mechanics you'd expect of a Wizardry game. It tried leaning a little towards the Dark Souls model, but wasn't successful at that either. They made a huge deal about having permadeath in the game, but then preceded to sell real-money potions that would circumvent that whole mechanic.

Seems like I wasn't the only one disappointed with this, considering it was shut down just a few months after launch.

  • Oh shit, this game is amazing. Already spent 20+ hours with it in only a week. Apparently I had created a user when it went free to play in 2010, without actually creating a character, when I finally did I was surprised to get a bunch of veteran rewards. The game even hooked me to the point that I purchased an All Access Pass and a couple of the game's expansion packs.

  • Didn't play more than a couple of hours of this.

  • Haven't tried it in 10 years. I think I would enjoy Ultima Online more.

  • I didn't play it during it's peak in the late 90's. I spent a few hours with it in 2011-2012 after it had gone free to play. It went open source in 2014, and I've considered going back to see what that means for this game.

  • After a 3 year hiatus since I tried the Trial version, I got back into EVE again around the EVE coverage on the site in 2013. Played somewhat actively for a few months, and then tapered off, but kept my subscription going until November 2014.

  • I've spent a decent amount of time with this since I got it in 2009.

  • Wasn't my kind of game. Didn't even play one whole day of my free 30 days.

  • Doesn't run well at all on any of my machines.
