@mvhvtmv: Quake and UT don't have one hit kill melee kills. In fact, you need to equip the melee weapon first to use them. And as it should be. One hit kill melee is not necessary in fast paced games since you can use movement to work your way out of 1v2 situations (and CoD games except maybe Advanced Warfare and Black Ops 3 are not fast paced anyway). And the situations where quick reflexes with OHK melee becomes important are often the result of sloppy play in CoD. Good players in CoD hose other players down as they come sprinting around a corner. Two bad players bump into eachother at the corner and start mashing the melee button.
And in MW2 it became just dumb with the Commando perk.
@humanity: Pretty much, even though for the multiplayer it introduced a lot of stuff I don't like and can even objectively argued as bad (poor balancing, poor focus on slower paced gameplay, rewarding bad plays with stuff like Matyrdom which they even further fucked up with deathstreaks in MW2 and 3). But it did make console shooters more mainstream after Halo and kept 60fps and fluent gameplay important for console shooters.
The singleplayer is still cool although a bit dated here and there now.
@sloppydetective: more like back when CoD started to get bad. Good Treyarch picked up the ball with Black Ops.
@steveurkel: DOOM mp doesn't need deathmatch. The game is balanced more around team games than FFA situations. DM is fine for what it is now, but I rather play TDM, partly because of the Demon Rune which requires a team effort to take down. I'm sure Quake Champions will be a more traditional arena shooter with more focus on DM and duel. But I'm glad the DOOM mp actually tries to do new things with the arena shooter to give it a fresh experience instead of copying Quake3/UT (and with the active player number of those games, that would've been a bad idea anyway).
