@apewins: to be fair, I think I'm in the minority in my feelings about this game, so dont give out hope that this game is good. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood set, or my expectations were high, or I couldn't put myself in it's time period.

To your point I think the game starts fairly well.. the first level for all the characters are their best levels and would be the showcase levels.. by level 4 and beyond I think the same environment, no new enemy varieties, humor, and difficulty ramp start to wear thin fast. By the 3rd level for each character I was playing because of an obligation to finish, but all the fun was zapped out of me.

@bigsocrates: Thanks for the quick history lesson.. I mean I grew up around the same time as you, and I remember bad jumping in video games just as much.. but even removing the platforming and debatable humor, I just don't think running down corridors holding down the R button is actually fun. I just think of other games released around the same time that while not exactly the same are just far more interesting to play now. Syphon filter, original tomb raider, shadowman, and even Fur fighters I think all are going to end up higher on this list.

As for ni no Kuni, my biggest gripe was that I felt combat was just so bad for a game so beautiful to look at. There never seemed to be a reason to switch your characters out, because the strategy for all bosses was to be the main character and shoot fireballs until they died.

I accept that I could be way wrong on this game, some games just don't gel with certain people.. maybe I need to watch some twitch streamer play this game for the first time and see how they feel about it.

I mean even watching the quick demo movie on the game (leaving it on the menu for so long) doesn't even make this game look fun. It's just two snippets of someone trying to fight regular enemies and kinda getting wrecked.

@glots: thanks for the comment.. the music is good listening to it through those videos, but I can't say I really noticed the music while playing outside of the main theme.

@sparky_buzzsaw: Thanks for the comment.. the moving levels are always my least favorite in any of the games.

@bigsocrates: I wish I could tell you how year end audits went, but our 3rd party company hasn't given us the final report yet since our year end filling is like a week away.. I'm sorry I kept you out of the loop. Yeah the DLC was kinda of a waste. I played the extra mode enough to get all the costumes for Donatello, and I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't just color grades.. maybe if the costumes were wackier (like trench coat turtle, or samurai turtle) and mimicked old action figures or comic variants it would be more fun to unlock those bonuses, but just getting "Gameboy green" isn't enough for me.. still a super great game, just outside the top 10.

@chamurai: thanks for the read and comment. We did the same thing after beating it. My kids went from wanting to play a level every night to stopping once we saw the end. I played through solo afterwards to knock out some challenges and get a few costumes from the DLC, but yeah not much going back.

@bigsocrates: Great list, way better than mine, which for the past ten years has simply been "win the lotto." You would think I have had ten years to do one thing, and yet I keep failing, oh well.. but I do want to highlight your #2.

When I gave up achievement hunting it changed my video game hobby for the better by miles.. I was also in the 100% club that would get every dumb achievement, spoil games for myself so I knew when achievements were going to pop well before I got there, and suffer needless extra hours to play games multiple times just to get those difficulty based achievements or anything else that required multiple playthroughs. And for what? Achievements can be fun to get, or set a goal towards, but don't get them just to get them. It sounds like you are already there, but it was so freeing playing on switch or playstation (as a long time Xbox user) and realizing that I didn't care about trophies and switch didn't care about achievements at all.. take care of yourself.

@bigsocrates: now that sounds like my kind of game... maybe I'll buy it, so I can add it to my wheel of games.
