Anyone wants a Pokémon White code for Club Nintendo? (USA)

My American copy of Pokémon White just arrived on the mail this morning. Since I live in Europe, I can do nothing with the registration code for Club Nintendo I got with the game. Any American GBer interested in getting it? I know it's not worth much, but hey. Some coins are always welcome, I guess. I was thinking about making a little lottery, but I guess it's not that value either.

If you want it, and don't have the game, drop me a line here :)

Edit: You know, since I'm quite busy and I'll probably won't be able to check the site for anyone who may have posted, I'll leave the code here. If you manage to grab it, please, post here to let us know, so others don't try it :P

My Backlog: 12/28/10

This is my backlog for PC and 360.  Just done with New Vegas, got two endings. I'll keep playing, building up two more characters to get all the endings and the Steam Achievements, but I'll try to focus my attention to something new.

Xbox 360

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood: Loved the first two. I'm looking forward to this one, but I feel I'm a little burned out of AC after having beaten the first two in less than two months.

Bayonetta: I admit I got this because all of the GOTY talk during the last couple weeks. I never played a DMC or God of War, so I really don't know what to expect... but it looks crazy

Deadly Premonition: If Bayonetta is crazy... this is madness. Right, Zach?

Red Dead Redemption: It was about time I got this game. I imported the Limited Edition from China (NTSC, PAL compatible, in English) that comes with some online unlockables... sweet

GTA IV Complete: Fun fact. This is the first game I got for 360. I wanted to play it, because my PC can't handle it (yet), but now... RDR seems more appealing, to be honest :P

Scott Pilgrim vs The World: This, along with Super Meat Boy and Dead Rising: Case Zero, was the first XBLA game I bought. I really like the game, but it's waaaay too hard for me. I S-Ranked SMB, but man... Scott Pilgrim is even harder, if you ask me. The enemies gang me up and punch my life away in a matter of seconds. There was a patch in the works, but I guess it never came out...

PC

 Damn you, Steam sale

Mass Effect 2: I finished my second playthrough of the first ME some days ago, I think I'll play something in-between to give the franchise a bit of air.

Dragon Age: I was in my second playthrough as a dual-wielding warrior... but I got distracted by other games. I've yet to experience the post-Origins DLC: Awakening, Golems of Agmarrak and Witch Hunt.

Left 4 Dead/Left 4 Dead 2: I bought L4D2 a while back, during a Mid-week Madness or something like that. I have plenty of Achievements to get in both games, a couple of episodes to beat in L4D and... basically the whole L4D2 untouched.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2: This was an impulse purchase. I know my rig is not powerful enough to run this game perfectly -I'm getting 40 - 60 FPS with everything maxed out, except for Shadows and AA- but I just ordered a Core 2 Quad Q8400 :)

BraidOsmos and MachinariumHumble Indie Bundle 2, je t'aime :) (I had actually beaten Braid some time in the past... but not legally, you know what I mean?).

The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom: €0.49. I felt terrible when I bought this. Poor, poor devs.

Darksiders: €7.50 on Steam for this sleeper hit? Sold.

Puzzle Quest: I thought this had Steam Achievements. Turns out it's the second one that has them. Fuck.

Dead Rising 2: It has Live Achievements and shorter loading times than in 360. Plus, better graphics. What's to doubt here?

Toki Tori: Lovely :)

Plants vs Zombies: Game of the Year Edition: I'm halfway through, abandoned it to focus on... larger things :P

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2: I have like... 2 levels to beat on Veteran to get all the "Beat X on Veteran" Achievements, but besides that (and the impossible-for-me-to-get co-op SpecOps Achievements), I'm mostly done with this.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent: I want to play this on one sitting, but I don't have the time... or the guts.

Burnout Paradise: I can't believe I got this for free some days ago.

Minecraft: I refuse to go back to Minecraft until the Painterly Pack is fixed :(
------

What do you suggest as my next game, duders? :D

I'm a Golden God... finally.

I know I'm not the first to S-Rank this game, but man... This feel fucking great.  I got more than 15k deaths, my fingers hurt like a bitch, and I won't probably be able to hold a 360 controller for a week. But I fucking did it. This must be, by far, the hardest, most time consuming gaming achievement I ever got... and probably will ever get.

Needless to say, I will never, ever touch Super Meat Boy again :P

I just S-Ranked my first 360 game!

It's not that I hadn't S-Ranked a game before, but they had always been on PC, on either GFWL or Steam. Dead Rising: Case Zero is my first console S-Rank, and I'm damn proud of it. I finally feel like I'm playing in the "next gen"... which would be "current gen", I guess :P

What about you, GiantBomb? Which was your first S-Rank ever?

Level scaling in RPGs: Love it or hate it?

I feel that, recently, a lot of RPGs or games with strong RPG elements have been using a level scaling system instead of the traditional fixed level for enemies. In case you don't know, "level scaling" means that enemies become stronger as you get stronger. If you level up, they level up. On the other hand, in a fixed-level game, like for example in Diablo II, enemies have their stats and levels pre-defined, so if you're too weak to take them on, you have to level up a bit more (aka grinding) or you'll die. The most glaring example is TES IV: Oblivion. You can basically beat the game at level 1 with the right set of major/minor skills. But other more recent games, like Mass Effect  Dragon Age, also scale the enemies to match your character's progression.

What do you think, GB? Do you feel level scaling takes away the importance of character progression in RPGs? Or on the contrary, it makes the game much more fair, reducing grinding?

A sad day for DLCs

09/07 was a day marked in the calendar of many, many RPG fans. Bioware was releasing not one, but two DLCs for their most popular games right now-- Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins-- Lair of the Shadow Broker and Witch Hunt, respectively. Both were supposed to be a massive addition to their respective games. Lair of the Shadow Broker is the biggest DLC for ME2, both in scope and story-wise, beginning to bridge the gap between ME2 and the future ME3. Witch Hunt, on the other hand, was supposed to bring closure to the Original Dragon Age: Origins storyline, reuniting your character, the Grey Warden, with Morrigan, who had went away after the final battle in the game. The DLC's main purpose was to tidy up the story a bit and finally untangle some major plot loose ends, to make room for Dragon Age II.

They both failed epically.

The original PC release of Lair of the Shadow Broker was a 1.5GB file full of zeroes. 0 = nothing, garbage data. So you, and a couple thousands of other users, downloaded 1.5GB of absolutely useless nothing. The fact that the file was still available for download several hours after Bioware had acknowledged the problem did not help at all. People kept downloading the DLC only to find it was worthless.

Witch Hunt had only one bug, but a major one. If you've played Dragon Age: Origins, you know that Morrigan may play a key part in the resolution of the fight with the Archdemon. Well, if you play through Witch Hunt, in the end you find a heartbreaking bug (spoilers for Dragon Age: Origins follow):

I like DLCs, specially if they add to and expand the plot of the game. But seeing a BIG company like Bioware royally screw up not once, but twice on the same day with their DLCs is beyond my understanding. What about quality control? I can understand that LotSB may have been corrupted while uploading it, if that's what Bioware wants us to believe, but no one dowloaded the file to see if it was OK before going live? No one played Witch Hunt to see if, at least, the major plot-changing decisions worked as they were intended? I know many people consider DLCs a cheap way to deliver an unfinished game and then cash-in with big paid patches... For the most part, I don't agree with this view, and I understand that bugs are unavoidable, but seeing a big and respected developer like Bioware let such huge failures slip by makes me real sad. The ME2 DLC has already been fixed and Bioware is working on Witch Hunt right now, but still... something like this shouldn't have happened.

Currently playing (Week of 09/06/2010)

I'm just a few days away from starting college again, so I'm trying to squeeze my free time as much as possible right now.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Wii)

I'm loving this game so far. It's much, much better than Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. I'm actually having fun this time. I love how the finally merged all the upgrades into one weapon (or rather, three basic weapons that get upgrades). Having to switch between three or four different weapons to open doors or kill some enemies was a terrible drag in the first two. Also, not losing the most useful upgrades at the start of the game is a huge plus. Double jumping around makes everything so much easier :)

Dragon Age: Origins (+DLC) (PC)

I love this game. It's by far one of my favorite games from the last decade. I'm currently in my fourth playthrough, trying to choose the plot branches that I haven't chosen yet, to unlock the few Achievements I haven't got yet. I'm playing with a DW Warrior, tanking Shale, Leliana as an archer and Morrigan as a mixed healer/damage dealer.

Mass Effect (PC)

It's not that I don't like this game, but I'm having a hard time adjusting to it. I find it too... cumbersome, I dunno. Still, I've only spent 2 or 3 hours in it, so I still have a lot do :P My Shepard's a male soldier with the default appearance, and I'm probably going to take Kaidan and Garrus, although a friend told me Wrex was a good tank for my setup...

Burnout Paradise (PC)

I like doing a couple races and stunt runs once in a while. Great, fun game. Too bad the PC version doesn't have the ability to use a custom soundtrack like the console version...

Too bad I'll be buried in work in a couple weeks, because I'm dying to play Dead Rising 2 and Fallout: New Vegas :)
