How Did this even happen? Did they just want it out for the launch window that bad that they released a half finished game or what?

If I were a betting man, I'd say that someone above Dice's pay-grade wanted this out by launch window. If it was entirely up to Dice it probably would've been a lot more playable. Sounds like more EA properties than BF4 launched pretty fucked up to get out in time for the consoles....

I've always had nothing about respect for our northern neighbors. I can't respect this.

Except for the part where he is an employee of the federal government and he's bitching about his decent paying, tax-funded job with great benefits which involves interacting with tax-payers concerning taxation. He was "club-fed" employee. It takes remarkable skill to get fired from government agencies. Maybe if his frustrations could take a more artful turn into metaphor and allegory he wouldn't lose his job, but they didn't.

He did all this while off the job, was making commentary on all call centres jobs and did not at any point say it was about his current job nor did he even mention his current job. At what point is something like this infringing upon free speech? If I post on a social media site that I hate Mondays should I then be fired for implying that working at company X on Mondays suck? What difference does it make that he was a federal employee? Everyone bitches about their jobs at some point no matter what job you have.

Except it wasn't a comment to his friends on facebook, it's something he's offering to the public. I know he doesn't specifically mention the CRA, but it's really not that big of a stretch to assume a lot of this is coming from his (then) current job. A job which happens to be funded by tax-payers. He is getting paid to deal with these people. That's the job. If he hates it so much, find another job. And if he can't go without making his complaints about the people he is supposed to offer a service to into a public spectacle, then he shouldn't have the job. There are enough people who will take the overpaid government job and shut the fuck up about it

His job he had might not have even been a call centre position? I know tons of people that I went to high school with that worked minimum wage call centre jobs to sell shit/do surveys, and they fucking hated it. To assume that this particular game is about this particular job is ridiculous. Get your head out of your ass. He probably did exactly what you're saying and found another job, a job at the CRA. In his free time he made a game about his life, and he's offering this to the public because making games is probably his passion. Don't be such a prick.

Brad said the Arkenstone wasn't in The Hobbit (book)...

I disagree....

Thank you. I yelled at my speakers when he said that.

I don't know the dimensions on that box, but most modern video cards are larger than the size that looks to be. It leads me to wonder if the hardware in it is worth the price point because you can build a pretty decent PC for $1000.

Integrated chipsets by AMD and Nvidia have been at a point where they've been able to handle the recent games at low to medium settings for a number of years now, and they also have ranges of mid-tier low power graphics cards like the AMD HD 7750 that can be passively cooled with a modestly sized heatsink, and thus don't need the one meter heatsink/fan setups that were all the rage about graphics cards 5 years ago. Wouldn't surprise me if this box uses something like that. I'm sure they'll also be selling the hardware at a loss, like Microsoft and Sony does.

Don't forget about the higher end laptop graphics cards too. The AMD Radeon 7970m can run Skyrim at 60+ fps on Ultra settings.. and it's not very large. Be interesting to see the power one of these things in the finalized gaming model puts out.

You wouldn't know it by the framing of the shot, but the governor is indeed a Hobbit.

And I can't help but feel he looks remarkably like Richard Dakwins...

The game industry really seems to chew up and spit out the people who actually make the games. I guess you've got to get into management and insider trading to get the cash and job stability.

Yeah that certainly seems to be the case. I don't hear games journalists (the GB guys included) raising a fuss over the trend besides saying that layoffs are a 'shame' and then changing the subject. Maybe they don't see value in commenting on the industry politics.

Either way, I don't like it.

Layoffs happen every day in every business sector. The fact you hear about it in video games press is simply of consequence to your enthusiasm for video games.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't GiantBomb created with the plan to have a gaming website completely detached from politics and business aspects and focus solely on games? (Directed at Darkstorn, but I'm actually trying to recall where I read that or if I just made it up in my mind)

I'm going to be honest... if a game developer isn't willing to bet $100 on their game's success, then it doesn't belong on Steam.

This.
