I suddenly realized that nobody has mentioned Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Don't be turned off if you aren't big into Mario, that game kind of has its own take on the characters and universe, being a Squaresoft joint and all. It's relatively short, has a charming story, and does some fun things with the turn-based formula.
Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger are must-plays at some point in your life if you have even the slightest interest in JRPGs. They're worth playing for the soundtracks alone.
In addition to everything pointed out already, it always made me happy when I Love Mondays came up, back when it had the opening and everything. Seeing Ryan's goofy ass googly eyes in the intro and then hearing him lay out what was coming always got me stoked for another week of Giant Bomb. He was a pro at presentation.
I still remember this ILM in particular because of how Ryan cracks in the last few seconds, and it still makes me laugh: I Love Mondays 09/26/11
I feel as though I have lost one of my closest friends. I never met Ryan, I never spoke with him, but in his sincerity these years at Giant Bomb, I felt close to him. My deepest comforts to those who were truly in his life because I know his absence must hurt you even more than it hurts me and everyone else here like me.
I will never forget Ryan Davis or the great times he gave to all of us.
Eh. It looks like what it is: unfinished. Honestly, most of the functional improvements being made are too deep for a surface user me. I know Dave and the others want this site to be some kind of content creation wiki wonderland, but I'm basically just here to watch videos and comment. If the video player doesn't work right in every modern browser, then the whole redesign is a wash as far as I'm concerned.
I'd also like to see more information during live streams. The chat should be able to see right underneath the video what game is being played and how long the stream has been on.
If I'm going to really nitpick, I hate the circular user avatar on the new site header.
