@big_denim: I found the d-pad to be the way to go pretty much 100% of the time, largely due to the accidental wrong direction stuff you describe. I have found this problem to be even worse with the elite controller, presumably on account of its heavier stick.

I will say though that this is definitely not the only game that I've had this issue with, and that I love this game even though I haven't beaten mr king dice yet (waiting to have time with my co-op partner).

@zeik & @ares42 Thanks! I think I'll go find that option and get used to recognizing items before I go back to the faster (but more error prone for me) approach

@ares42: This is weird, and I am probably just dumb, but I don't really understand how to activate stuff from the radial menu. In most games letting go of L1 while having the item selected, or pressing some button while it's selected would be the thing, but it seems like just letting go of the thumbstick is maybe how to make it work?

I have accidentally used stuff I didn't want to use enough times that I am afraid to use anything but the dpad approach.

At that age, PCs were basically solely for Minecraft and YouTube for my kids. Well, maybe Terraria too.

I think those are probably the games to start with, but if there's something that's only on steam, I would just log in with a grown-ups account (or, you know, lie to valve about his age)

I got a lot more out of the spoilercast that Alex did with the Waypoint folks than the game itself. The philosophical musings, for me at least, were better in hindsight than in the moment. Played through ending E, and the strongest feelings it evoked were of mild annoyance.

I bought that projector this year and love it (having a 120 inch screen is awesome). The room doesn't need to be that dark for it to work well, I frequently even leave the sliding glass door behind me uncovered while playing during the day. The audio it produces is not great though, so you'll want a sound bar or something to get better audio.

All of this stuff is pretty gray, but there are definite shades of gray to what you could record videos of and present publicly:

  • playing a whole session of a board game, including showing all of the art assets on screen, even if you're doing it without much commentary is probably OK (I dunno, Games Workshop might not agree)
  • watching a whole movie, and including the whole movie in your video, even if commenting critically, is probably not
  • using a spreadsheet, or drawing program: probably alright

Video games run a pretty wide range of being more or less like any of those 3. Whether or not any given thing is alright is ultimately up to a judge.

For all its faults, the DMCA kind of ignores whether any of this stuff is technically legal and outlines a way for the operators of sites to avoid liability ("safe harbor") by giving copyright holders the ability to issue takedowns on anything they claim is infringing.

@gundamguru: That's an impressively low bar to reach plausible deniability. "nah, it's not a racist flag, look at the kerning"

I never got the option. Tried shooting the credits like 3 times, and then said yes to "do you give up?" I would have said yes, but mostly because I was happy for it to be over.

edit: *would have said yes to deleting
