" @newmarcom: Alright, opened up the top panel and made sure that they are on properly. Seems to have helped, pretty much crossing my finger now. Anyways, thanks! EDIT: Alas, the action buttons worked for a good while, then crapped out again. Did some pushing and tugging the connectors wires, but it's not helping at all :/ "
Try pulling off the quick disconnect wires and switch it with button that you know will work. Also try plugging your stick to a PC and see if the buttons work there.
It sounds like a loose wire. Take off the top panel and check that the quick disconnects are on properly. If that all checks out, try swapping the quick disconnects with the different button to see if the button is faulty. And if button are clear, then you may have a faulty control board.
The only two differences between a normal TE and a TE-S is the form factor and the TE-S lock switch disabling the start and select/back buttons. The both joysticks are using the same Sanwa parts.
@GetEveryone: If your joystick shaft is bent at the mechanism, you're probably better off replacing the entire joystick. It would be rather difficult to try and hammer the joystick shaft straight again. Judging from your description, you might also want to check your microswitches to see if it got knocked loose from the circuit board. Though all of that damaging force should have been focused on the plastic gate and may have protected the switches anyway. But post those pictures so we can get a better handle of the situation.
I'm pretty sure the joystick relies on the spring to physically align itself to neutral position. You can get replacement springs from a local home hardware shop. So unless the joystick shaft or mounting plate is also bent out of shape, it should be easy to replace the spring.
