@KaosAngel: I'm glad there's someone else out there that likes the characters and plot of the game.

I still prefer Type-Moon's Tsukihime as my choice for character/plot driven "Mature" game. Although it also has sex, there is a family-friendly version where all of that is taken out. Honestly, the sex in the game is doesn't move the plot or build on the cast of characters, it just serves as a "reward" for hitting all of the correct flags. At the very least, it made me appreciate Melty Blood that much more.

If you have to think about it, then you're too old.

Wait a minute. Are we talking about the same Shinji Mikami produced game, named Resident Evil in the West, from the Osaka-based Capcom? Wait, what?

You're thinking of Biohazard.

@Mesoian:  I think the rule of  "not of Japanese origin" is too strict for an anime cosplay competition in general. But since it is an anime convention, the better rule would be "it must be from/has ties to an anime". I don't recall Bioshock having any anime related products, so that is good reason for disqualification.  Of course, at the cons that I go to, they are pretty relaxed when it comes to these rulings. They allowed Jack Sparrow because he was in Kingdom Hearts and that has a manga adaption. There were also competitors who cosplayed as Aang and company from Avatar: The Last Air Bender because that show was heavily influenced by anime but was not of Japanese origin.

And to get to your main question, metacritic is not really a fair representation of the world influence of games since it is mostly visited by English speaking citizens. So a lot of the Japanese only text-heavy games like Love Plus, Project Diva, and 428: Shibuya are not going to very visible on the site. The same could be said if you live in Japan and ask "where are all the western games at?". The best answer for your question is that developing for a local audience is the safest bet to make money. In the past, say 16-bit era, there weren't a lot of western developers so Japanese games dominated the market. Nowadays, there are enough western developed games to suit western tastes that western audiences don't need to rely on Japanese games anymore.

^ This. I think they may have launched KirbyKirbyKirby.com around the time that Saturday morning cartoon made its debut. "

MarkMan, the designer of the FightStick, posted on his twitter account that the WWE Sticks will be catered to the game and not an just an art job. So maybe?

" Literally all they have to do is change the art on the stick and maybe the button color.  Why wouldn't they if it sells more units?  "
But imagine if they made the stick with a block button in the middle and run button to the side. The only thing better is if they used the American joystick parts instead.

" @mubress: Thanks, any other technical things to look out for? And like I said earlier, in your opinion, would playing the game on mute make a difference? "
Depends on your community environment. If it's always noisy, then practice on mute since you can't guarantee that you can hear the game audio at tournaments. Practicing on mute weens you off audio cues and makes you rely on visual reactions.

On the other hand, the sound of impacts (did they get hit or block?) and the sound of your meters getting Super and Ultra are the main audio cues I check for.

Playing with music is a double-edge sword. It can help you find your rhythm and focus but you could end up being dependent on your tracks if it's your only way to win matches.

I like this one.

 - A rare issue wherein an item data would get corrupted during a server outage has been addressed.
* We have confirmed that if a player attempts to put this corrupted item into their bazaar, it would cause the server to go down. We are currently in the process of addressing this issue, but until then, we have placed a temporarily restriction on these corrupted items which were being sold by certain players. We will be providing an update on this situation once we have a better idea on when the the actual fix will take place. We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
