Man this game still seems buggy as hell. The T poses, Brad's audio glitch, Brad's game just straight up crashing.... and this is within a single hour of play. How disappointing.

Destiny's gameplay is so good. I just wish I didn't feel completely lost sometimes.

Something about the way the quest and presentation of the game always confuses me for a bit.

Yeah, Destiny is so opaque that it gets incredibly frustrating. I jumped back in 2 days ago (haven't bought Shadowkeep yet), and there's just so much shit going on. I looked at my quest log and had no idea how to even do half of them. I looked at my inventory and I have a million thingamajigs and doohickeys with enigmatic descriptions, so naturally I have no idea what the hell any of them are even used for.

And I have so many random resources and have no idea if I'm actually supposed to use them. Do I just go turn in all of my tokens, or is that wasting them? Are bounties "worth doing"?

I ended up just doing an objective for a quest that actually made sense to me (complete a lost sector on the EDZ). I feel like I need a wiki up whenever I touch this game.

(rant over, lol.)

@kcin: it’s kind of a bummer, but this is how it goes every year. They can’t talk about the games they haven’t played, so I usually tune into the GotY talks more for entertainment than for worrying about their picks.

For example, thus far, I’d argue that FF14 Shadowbringers should probably win this year’s Best Music award, but it almost certainly won’t be mentioned at all because no one played it. And like you said, Outer Wilds will probably get shafted a bit.

Kind of lame they have "In this episode: Mario 64" front and center. It kind of ruins the surprise.

Regarding the Dan/Abby/Kojima thing...

There have been multiple times on the Beastcast where Vinny or Alex have explained why people like Kojima. It’s not just Dan saying “the bee man shoots bees at people!”

Yet a few weeks later we’ll be back at Abby saying “I just don’t see why people love Kojima so much.” It feels like they’re going in circles.

If she’s actually curious, just set aside a weekend to play MGS1 (and maybe 2). Neither of those games are particularly long. But she always does a “yeah, no thanks” when that idea comes up.

Jeff seems really into this. I'm calling it - this'll be a serious GotY contender.

I was pretty meh on the earlier episodes of this, but this episode was a lot of fun. I think the changes they made to the rules were great. As was the hidden wheel.

I'm also super curious what "fun" thing they put in the wheel, as they were being super coy about it. I'm guessing it's an immediate out of the entire series, like "start playing X other game" or "end the show."

I really hope this year's "Please Stop" award goes to "Releasing games that perform like shit."

Control runs like ass on the PS4. This game looks like it runs like ass, especially on the PS4. Bloodstained runs like ass on the Switch. Iceborne still takes forever to load and the FPS can really dip on PS4 (this one is less egregious than the other ones, but it's still bugging me).

I'm not some FPS snob, but this shit is ridiculous. I want to be able to buy a game and be confident that it'll at least perform fine. But apparently that's too much to ask.

EDIT: And the review scores for the Link's Awakening remake are all saying the FPS is iffy. Sigh...

or switch to tropical freeze. dont even acknowledge it just start the next episode with it being tropical freeze.

This would be great. Tropical Freeze is an amazing game. It's also pretty tough, so it'd work a lot better with the betting and rules they have set up. Though they'd of course have to change a few.

Not sure why they buttoned through all of the dialogue/Lappy stuff at the start and called it not the "real game." The game is very much an action RPG as opposed to a straight action game, so the story/dialogue/characters are a big part of it. A lot of time in this game will be spent doing what they did at the start, for better or worse depending on what you want out of the game.

Anyways, I'm really enjoying the combat in this game because it's so unique. You've got a ton of tools at your disposal. But the scoring system seems straight up busted. I just beat a boss where I straight up died once and popped like 5 healing potions and got an S+. It seems to value using your entire skill set over actually dodging and being effective. So I'm not sure how much replay value this'll have for me compared to something like DMC5.
