I was definitely lukewarm on the gameplay in The Last of Us, never really being hooked by the loop of walking around, collecting, crafting and then either shooting a bunch of fungal zombies (sometimes humans) or sneaking by them, but the strength of its story pulled me through to the end.
The plot itself is serviceable enough, but the true reason I kept going was the writing and the animation, both of which are excellent at creating believable characters and places. I was invested in this duo, and wanted to see where the road took them.
I played this over the course of a few months, hammering away at my keyboard 10 minutes at a time. The gameplay is simple, but demanding at times. In its 'action' state, you're frantically trying to complete all the orders that come through, while juggling a bunch of timers and chores. In the downtime, you have to adjust your menu and sort through emails, to make sure your next in-game day is as efficient as possible. It was easy to be tricked into playing just "one more day".
Having heard about this game for a few years, it was high time I tried it myself. It is indeed a special game, making you reduce humans to their documents, providing you with a new perspective.
A light-hearted (but sometimes tough) physics based 'go-to-the-right'-er, with lots of cleverly designed puzzles and level design in general. You control one (or more) fuzzy blob(s) with the capacity to transform in different ways through pick-ups, sometimes you'll be a big bouncy blog. Other times you'll be a small sticky blob. Sometimes you'll be 300 blobs.
