I'm actually a bit disappointed with the look of the new anime, the designs seem much simpler and lower budget than the 90s one.

The 90s one is an OVA that was released over a 5 year period that is around 4 hours in total. A 25 episode TV series released over 6 months has no way to match that level of quality no matter how much money you pump into it.

Is @alex saying that his love of American Truck Simulator comes from the amusement of a miniaturized, goofy, parody version of real America roads imply that he actually believes that Euro Truck Simulator roads are realistic 1:1?

@jeff @brad @unastrike

Not sure if you were serious with that "Act 3 coming soon" joke but it was actually true for Snatcher.

The original 1988 release on the MSXw and the NEC-PC-8801 ended on Act 2 on a cliffhanger with no resolution. It wasn't until a full 4 years later when it was re-released on the PC Engine (and subsequent versions thereafter) that it was given an Act 3 and a real ending.

2019, mark it in your calendar everyone. It's coming.

Policenauts, no one talks about it. How similar is it to Snatcher?

It's a buddy cop movie video game, much more anime with a lot more animated scenes. You see one in MGS when Octacon tells you why he got into building mechs.

The game operates mostly like a point and click but like Snatcher it forces you to go from scene to scene most of the time which does lead to a bit of pixel hunting, exhausting all dialogue options and sometimes having to do the same option twice.

I got use to being methodical about it and went at a decent pace but it sometimes got frustrating when you're in certain more intense action-y scenes and have to click a bunch of stuff for banal details before moving on which sometimes breaks the tension and pulls you out of it.

The shooting sequences aren't on grid and is a freeform moving mouse cursor, the Sega Saturn has light gun support whereas the Playstation had mouse support (who had one of those?) same with the 3DO version (or this?)

There is one action sequence involving a woman's handbag which is the best part of the game, which is a shame as it could've done with a lot more of them and it is far and away the best part of the game from a gameplay perspective.

Snatcher is very cyberpunk whereas Policenauts is more grounded in reality with a lot of more hard sci-fi world building. The plot is a more focused than Snatcher's in my opinion which gets very zany towards the end. Although Policenauts relies on buddy cop tropes heavily so it is very cliche at times but it uses them cleverly and pulls off some decent twists.

Music-wise it's up there, can't decide which one is better. Policenauts had the help of noted guitar player Kozo Nakamura which leads to some very buddy cop movie videogame music and leans into it hard.

Just check out this

also this is the game where the "do. do. do. do dodo" melody that starts MGS comes from.

Oh and if you think Gillian is bad, you haven't seen nothing.
