It's not a big deal and I don't like shitting on people's hard work, but the thumbnails are kind of off putting. Makes the site feel "cheaper" to me. Just an opinion of course, and not like it would stop me tuning in.
Really nicely articulated post, and a very valid reaction to a pretty shit (in my opinion) "joke". Punching down for cheap laughs just isn't funny at all.
BTW, I know you weren't fishing, but I think you've got really nice facial features!! And I'm so jealous of that hair!!!!!!!!!
While I'm happy to see such excitement for RDR2, I have to agree that people seem to lose their critical eye when looking at R* games. It feels like people have already decided it's fantastic well in advance of the game being released. Stuff like "It's R* so we know it's gonna be awesome" is kind of depressing to hear - while I find their games incredibly impressive, they're also really iterative and I personally would like to see something more innovative from a gameplay perspective, rather than Horse Testicle Physics (tm).
Putting it another way, I'm not a Nintendo or Zelda fan at all, but Breath of the Wild blew me away in it's approach to open world - to me, Rockstar games almost feel like the antithesis to that.
In saying that, I'm stoked for a potential new great game for people to enjoy!! Yee Haw!!!
Was going to chime in here but @emfromthesea has articulated how I feel about this series better than I could. Only things I would add;
1 - It's totally fine for the duders to make this series for themselves and the people that will enjoy it (as I said in the last video, there's so much great GBE content that it's almost relief to have something I can feel comfortable skipping). And by the same token, the negative reaction from some people is 100% understandable.
2 - I was kind of disappointed how a few weeks ago on the beastcast Dan and Abby felt very dismissive of the reaction to this series (putting it down to [paraphrasing] "typically easily offended internet babies"). Maybe it was an in-the-moment thing, but in my mind dismissing this (imo perfectly valid) reaction is far worse than putting out something so tone-deaf.
@schnoo: I'm sorry but if you can't see why it's worth critiquing the reverence for patriotic images & iconography of a nation that has a history full of awful atrocities committed against minorities & marginalised people, during a time in which the news is full of stories telling of that same kind of bigotry, I don't know what to say to change your mind.
This isn't a beef I have with America in particular, believe me. Our nation was just recently celebrating the royal family wedding despite the monarchy being a force of oppression and colonialism for centuries, as we slowly march towards an exit from the EU that was won in large part due to this nation's hatred of immigrants. It's not a problem unique to the US but it is one I'm reminded of every time we approach this particular national holiday.
I think it's pretty understandable that a series leaning into American patriotism, parody or not, is going to rub some people the wrong way.
The guys are also totally free to make whatever content they want and I don't believe this was too bad (I feared the worst when I saw the opening!)
I also disagree with people saying this comment section is a dumpster fire? Most people voicing their concern seem to be pretty respectful and understanding. It doesn't have to be a big deal to say "Oh I don't like this because [reason]"
Sometimes content creators will make something that's not for everyone, people can voice their opinion, and then they can all move on! GB has so much awesome content these days I think it makes most sense to say "hey this wasn't for me" and move onto the next vid.
