I would probably consider myself a superfan and would colour myself cautiously optimistic after the weekends events. More than anything I want the story I remember delivered leveraging the best of modern platforms. Changes to the battle system and taking plot liberties here and there is totally fine by me, as long as they retain the sense of scale and exploration which blew me away 18 (fuck) years ago.
Taking out the world map would maybe be a necessity to facilitate a multi part release, and that would be a worrying sign to me - that map was a large part of making that game feel much more like a "world" rather than a collection of disparate maps.
To end on a positive note, after seeing what a great job they've done visually so far, I'm incredibly psyched just for the character reveals of this thing. I'm glad they're not afraid to change up character models, I think Barret looks pretty rad, can't wait for Cid, Yuffie, Tifa... man!
