I'm gonna toss some more out there.  The two Les Manley games, Freddy Pharkas: Frontier Pharmacist, Club Dread (awful game but had a bunch of hammy FMV that made it enjoyable), Gazillionaire, and Jazz Jackrabbit.  Some of those were popular once, but you hardly hear their names mentioned today.

Hey folks-

Just a friendly heads-up that Amazon will be holding an all-Xbox gold deal day starting Wednesday at midnight.  No idea what the sales are going to be, but if you're a 360 owner, you might want to keep an eye open.

I'd love to see a new Donkey Kong or Metroid platformer for the DS, as well as a new F-Zero.  My gut tells me we're going to see at least one of those.

@Tireyo643:  Only briefly.  Secret of Mana was something I always wanted to play, but I could never find a copy for sale.

Great list!  I agree with all of your choices, as they're all a blast to play.  Hoping to pick up DKC 2 & 3 next, followed by Secret of Mana.

I enjoyed the hell out of the gambit system.  I thought it had a bit of depth and allowed for pinpoint character customization in battle without having the user micromanage every attack.

Basch was my favorite until (SPOILERS) they revealed he had an evil twin.

Arcanum, Silent Storm, Quest for Glory, Front Mission 4, Phantom Brave, and pretty much any Disgaea game.

I haven't picked up any games from 2009 that have blown me away, but I picked up a copy of Gothic 2 Gold off GOG, and it's quite an amazing game with a hell of a lot of depth and replay value.  I'm already plotting out how my next character is going to work, and I'm only on the third chapter.

My favorite of 2009 I guess would be Suikoden Teirkreis, but even that left me wanting something more.  Console-wise, I'm impressed by the demo for inFamous, and I am waiting on it and Boom Blox 2 from Amazon.

Silent Storm was incredibly tough at parts, especially during its earliest levels before your characters start getting decent weapons and stats.

Besides that, I'd say the most brutally difficult game I've completed is probably Caesar 2.  I just couldn't wrap my head around the basics of that game for a long time.
