Just checked in on the in-progress Bombcast stream, the button is no longer there for me.

Thanks for looking into it. I only had the problem during a live stream, if I manage to catch another one, I'll update with any new information.

So, I understand some redesign broke your header fix. But currently this is what the homepage looks for me. I'm guessing it's because I'm running at 150% DPI (on a TV in my living room), but this is driving me nuts. Your fix to reduce the header size used to work. If it's still impossible to reduce the size, might it be possible to just get rid of the entire header?

@tomba_be: There's a distinct difference between saying "this is not what I prefer" and "this is broken", and someone calling something broken because they don't like it is 1. wildly self centered 2. a way harsher piece of feedback than is due to a project that (by all other measures other than personal taste) is a fully functioning and quietly impressive feat.

I have no idea what you think my logic is if you somehow found yourself at "this site should not exist"

@lokihellfire2008: Totally agreed. Nothing about the site is "unusable" and the redesign rolls in some long standing requests. More customization options are always better, but anyone making complaints has a severe lack of appreciation for the amount of effort it takes to make any of these changes happen, especially on a site with such a scale as this one.

So you are not saying that anyone making complaints has a severe lack of appreciation? I must have misread your comment? I am complaining because I don't like the redesign. According to you I do not appreciate the effort that went into the new design. Please point out the flaw in my logic?

And if I apply your logic to video games, this site should indeed not exist. Do you think not a lot of effort went into making The Quiet Man, for example? I'm quite sure even more effort went into that game. It's also fully functioning and I'm also quite sure 99.9% of the people visiting this site could not create it, which also makes it impressive. And as far as I can see, the official standpoint from the GB crew on this game is: it's garbage. So are they wildly self centered? Is the game due friendlier feedback because a lot of effort went into making it?

Oh bugger off. It's very easy to appreciate an effort while not liking the result of that effort. According to your logic, this site should not exist at all, because a large part of the content on here consists of complaining about the result of other people's work. Just like a reviewer can dislike a video game (which requires far more effort to make than a website), GB visitors can dislike a site design.

Hi! Former GB Premium subscriber here. Why former? I still enjoy GB content, but the process of purchasing premium still sucks.

I originally bought a year of premium when it was on sale. Another sale rolled around and I find out that existing premium subscribers cannot purchase additional premium time in advance while it remains on sale.

And so my subscription has lapsed while I await the next premium sale.

I was hoping that the premium store would be fixed as part of the site re-design, but it doesn't look like it has changed much at all.

That's very strange. I have 2 years left on my premium, bought during sales... So unless they changed something during the last sale, that should still work. I'm even quite sure that when they talk about an ongoing premium sale on podcasts or shows, they even mention you can also use it to extend your existing subscription. If it doesn't work for you, you should contact Support/Rorie.

Feedback #1:

I was finding the home page veeeery claustrophobic. While it's a very appropriate design for a mobile device, on desktop (1080p) it feels like i'm 2 inches from the screen and it's really uncomfortable.

I went into firefoxes style editor and added the below to the style sheet

#default-body {

width: 70%;

margin:atuo;

}

and found even that very small change made a massive difference in reducing the claustrophobic feeling. Aesthetically it's almost the same (Except for the top video) but it removed the "2 inches from the screen" sensation. I'd say maybe revisit the desktop setup, or maybe add some form of customization. Until then I'm probably going to keep browsing at 70% zoom in firefox.

Feedback #2:

The "Thanks Giant Bomb Premium User! banner makes my ad senses tingle. It's bright, doesn't fit the theme, and is massively out of place. You know what else fits that criteria? Ads. I understand it's an Ad slot for basic users, but for premium users please consider putting something else there. It's really distracting (and blinding considering the dark theme site). If that isn't possible please try to make it much more muted. It doesn't deserve to be the brightest thing on the page.

Fully agree on both. This is not just a mobile-friendly layout, this is more an anti-desktop layout. A huge video player immediately fills the entire screen when arriving at the site so unless that happens to be the thing I'm interested in, I have to scroll down every time? It's a gigantic waste of screen real estate imo. If it would play right there when clicked I could understand the layout (but would still dislike it immensely), but when I click it, it still goes to the video's page? I can understand trying to give a specific video a big spotlight, but please don't jam it down my throat every visit. Give that section a dismiss button or something (yeah more notification windows to dismiss!!!) so I can click it away until the next one.

The "Featured videos" are also way to big on a desktop, as is the 'upcoming' box. The 'Thanks for premium' box indeed feels like an ad. I seem to recall them saying they would put a link to "one-time" features (like how it already links to the 10-years page). At the moment it still looks like more wasted space (I know I'm premium....).

Everything starting from the Live on Infinite banner looks way, way, way better. I'd love for the page to just start from that section honestly. I could just use the 'Video's page as a starting place, but then I'd miss out on other content that only gets featured on the front page. And while I'm asking, I would love a page that just shows videos I have not watched completely or that I have not marked as 'Watched' in some way. Would be the best way to keep up with all the videos for me.

Video player controls on the site don't disappear in fullscreen. W10, updated Chrome. Seems to be happening for a few days now, both in the HTML5 and Progressive modes. They do disappear in the "small" player, and in the Embiggen mode. Also do not disappear in Fill Browser mode.

The fact that there haven't yet been comments about "well that's just how the real world works and if you don't like it you are a dumb communist", gives me some hope for mankind.

Also, for those saying how this is normal in many Japanese companies... The Nikkei is a financial newspaper, not some gaming site trying to get clicks with hyped up news. If a newspaper reports on this, it is most definitely NOT normal and is considered unhealthy even by Japanese standards.

I'm probably not allowed to say what I truly think should happen to a management that creates a working environment like this, but in my world they would be lucky to spend eternity in Silent Hill...
