Does it really matter if they didn't vibe with it that much? You can't force people to appreciate something. Just enjoy and spread the good word of mouth yourself, if you are so inclined. I know I will pick this up at some point.

Most recently, the "press X not to die" QTE's that appear a handful of times completely out of the blue during Bayonetta cutscenes.

I guess these long-term backlog games fall into groups (Prerequisites not complete, anticipating not having time etc) but mailnly it is down to not being in the mood. This is the biggest category for me.. I have lots of games that i bought with full intention of playing, but somehow i just haven't felt like starting. Alien Isolation for example seems only appropriate for autumn or winter evenings. Then again i have had shadowrun dragonfall for years and I apparently randomly launched it up this weekend, so i will probably carry on and beat that.

I thought Arkham Knight was a fantastic game top to bottom. I guess it had pretty shitty technical issues at launch, but I played on PC after it's been patched and it was fine for me - in fact I'd go to say it looked and ran great considering the scale and detail of what it is rendering.

I don't know if it counts but I think that Hotline Miami was innovative in its combination of music and instantly gratifying gameplay. The best games get you into the zone, or give you a sense of flow, and HM manages to do this even if you die/fail repeatedly through each level on the way to success.

Booted up Wipeout HD on the PS3 the other day, still looks, plays and sounds great today. Came out in 2008!

Might and Magic Clash of Heroes is excellent. It does have a little bit of story/character progression, but really, take a look at some videos of it. It's block-matching and strategy is really unique. It was on DS so you may be able to do it backwards compatibility on 3ds (I forget exactly with the different models)

I gave up on the final boss of Axiom Verge, which is so messy and chaotic it seemed to purely be a matter of having found enough health upgrades to tank through the damage.

I also quit Revenge of the Titans (an indie tower defence game) because they decided to make the last battle take place in total darkness and litter the play area with unseeable pebbles that block where you can build your towers.

Teslagrad has had me turn it off several times in annoyance too but haven't entirely quit that yet.
