Anyone else a Vega player? I'm trying to learn what my best wake up options are other than block.

Does crouch jab on wake up beat a lot of things since it's so fast, or no? I'm curious if cr. jab loses to a normal throw attempt on wake up. I can't do training mode right now or else I'd test it myself. I imagine cr jab loses to meaties and to command grabs, but would it beat out say a cammy who wants to mash jabs on my wake up, and then sets up tick throws?

Also, what are the standard cross up combos strings people do with Vega? I have been doing jump cr Lk stand lk, cr jab, into light roll if it's connecting. I KNOW though you can do cr lk deep into cr mk, into cr mp into roll, or cr mk stand mp stand hk target combo into ex izuna if they are standing.

Perfect. I set up my ID in there. I was just curious where we all talk about fighting game hoopla, and moreso SF5. This seems like the busiest thread in that regard.

@zlatko: There's the ID thread if you want to just get a bunch of CFN IDs and throw out invites at random, but yeah, generally speaking this is your best bet for setting something up.

CFN: GootecksShimmy
PS4
USA Mountain Time (Colorado)

I play Vega mostly, but can run with the majority of the cast. Up for sets often.

You're going to have to carve out and dedicate a LOT of time to go from zero to meh okay. You will need to accept that you will lose hundreds of matches.

You may want to invest in a fight stick and take the month or two to learn how to play on those so your execution becomes very steady. I highly recommend it if you don't have one already.

You'll really benefit the most if you have a friend or group of friends who wants to get better with you and you can grind together. Watch matches of high level players, read threads for combos you can do and general data on how the character works, and you should absolutely play each character in the roster for an extended period of time even if you have zero desire to play them. You want to learn what they are capable of, the mindset they are in, how they approach, how safe/unsafe things are, etc so when you fight against one you have a better sense.

In a way, learning characters is like learning maps in a first person shooter for example. This lets you know the best "spots" and flow of combat.

Reach out on here when the game drops and we can do private matches for us to do sessions with you for those that are better. Often less is more when starting out.

Oh, and buy Gootecks' book on Street Fighter 5. It's mad cheap on amazon :

Rashid is unsafe? I guess if the Rashid is just throwing out random tornadoes or something.

His BnB of Mp, crouching MK, into QCB LK felt unpunishable. You can do QCF LP and not mash it to be right in front of someone forcing them to tech a throw. If they aren't auto ready for it, then you just set up mix ups off a knock down.

I'd be really surprised if he isn't top 5 when game launches. He has so much going on. Amazing V skill to get out of corner, combo into it, and a V trigger that acts like Aegis Reflector/Rose's Orbs. His super can be comboed into, and is a great anti air punish too if done correctly. His mix ups are fantastic.

I felt like a really good Rashid or really good Dhalsim just completely would shut down a good chunk of the casts options.

RA SHID OOOOOOOO!

While my longest win streaks with any character this past beta were still with M. Bison, I am definitely going to pick up and main Rashid out the gate unless Alex is day 1 DLC.

He has top tier written all over him. Extremely mobile, great v skill, AMAZING V trigger (Aegis reflector status yo ungh!), fantastic damage, easy to do combos, incredible mix up game, and the list goes on and on.

Capcom gave this dude everything!

Even the best theme song:

@projectino: This is very true, but I would say the majority of top players are on a stick.

If execution isn't an issue on pad, then don't sweat it.

I'm so bummed out about Chun Li's lack of flippy- kick thing from IV. I used to use that a ton and not having it available (unless I'm missing something) is something I really, really need to get used to. I've played about 25 matches and won like 5. I just keep running into the same problem I had before I drifted away from IV. The people that are good are really, really, really good, the people that I beat just suck. I'm not bad at Street Fighter, I'm actually pretty OK, occasionally good. I'm not a fan of the way you do the lightning kick( and I super hate that motion mid-air), but I appreciate the Critical Art not being the <><K motion from before.

I still haven't gotten a feel for when to use the V Trigger, and I have no idea how to stop a bunch of Nash's attacks. I think I'm ready to let SF consume me again, but man I forget how much I get stressed out pre-match.

Not to come off like a butt head, but your post is that of someone who is probably poor at fighting games or Street Fighter in general.

Input motions should never be a barrier once you are established in fighters. Absolutely fine to have preferences, but a QCF for lightning legs should be brain dead easy if you have ever thrown a fireball in your SF life.

When you say lack of flippy kick do you mean Hozonshu? I thought she still had that but the input is different? Or do you mean spinning bird kick? Or do you mean her kick where she flips entirely over the opponent and land on their back side facing them ?

Other things to note:
Beta doesn't use skill matchmaking as far as I can tell. Hence why you are playing people who destroy at the game. The majority playing now are going to be dedicated fighting game player fans.

Look up videos to learn combos/strategies. There are some even though it's beta.

Practice a ton upon actual release. Watch pros. Invest in a fight stick to up your execution...and be prepared to spend hundreds of hours before you are actually good. If you need to mash ANYTHING at ANY time or drop a combo frequently, etc then you are still at scrub tier level and have a long road ahead of you.

Profound sadness! :(

Here's hoping the next beta is not too far off and will actually let us test the net code and not the title screen.
