I think the code on the back of the google controller is probably a unique code you'll input to sync the hardware with your account, since it uses its weird Wifi connection instead of working locally. If they used the konami code on the promo shots, that's probably just a gag because they needed a code to put there.

Depending on how close to hardware the games are its also possible that at some point Google will remove the old hardware from their data centres and the new hardware won't run the games you previously acquired.

I share many of the ownership issues with Jeff. I enjoy the convenience of digital ownership, but I shudder in fear of the inevitable loss of my Steam Library if anything happens to the server racks in charge of knowing what I have licences for. We have already handed over any rights to these types of properties through services like Steam, sure we got some things in return like community integration and automatic updates, but at what cost? So far there hasn't been too much to the end user directly in Steam's case, besides the digital rights.

What kind of drawbacks will Google's service have? What metadata are they selling to Devs and advertisers? How on earth are they going to pay for all of this if it takes off? There's a lot to worry about, but I am going to wait and see like many of y'all out there.

Until data caps are not a thing fuck all this streaming shit.

I think its weird to not think Halo isn't Microsoft's core franchise. I mean...the only other argument is maybe Forza...but Forza means different things to different people. Also, yes, Microsoft's game division is in dire straights hence why they are doing everything they are doing. If thinking Halo being MS's core franchise is incredibly weird I'd like to hear a good idea of what it actually is? Gears of War is just as bland and stagnant as Halo is.

Also also, yes...the entirety of Apex Legends has terrible art and character design. I love playing the game but as far as the look of the game its pretty bland to bad. Even Titanfall 2 had better designs for the different character models based on your "class". Quite literally 99.9% of the skins and character models in Apex Legends are just bad. Good thing the game itself is great but like Ben said it really makes you appreciate Blizzard's designs.

I wish I could like the Stadia news, but with 7Mbps speed I will not be able to even think about using it. I could get fast enough internet if I wanted to spend $200 per month to do so.

If I can stream GB videos and play Stadia at the same time, I'd give it a go.

They didn't really say ANYTHING running chrome, they said Chromebook/Pixel/Chromecast. Though I'm sure it will run on other things, they'll probably have more to say at E3.

Is a 1000 players battle royal more fun than a 100 players battle royal though? What I'm implying is that game technology can be very impressive but what makes a game fun is mechanics and design which is usually not so strongly connected to performance. (e.g. BOTW running on WiiU)

Also I'm not convinced more people are not playing video games just because hardware is required. Most people I've met who are not interested in games, told me they're not interested because they can't be bothered to have to think and act during their time of rest. It had little to do with the limitations of buying a console or a video game. And we must also not forget that Stadia won't be free either, a presumed 15$ subscription would turn down a lot of potential people who are to begin with just not into games.

Honestly, I hope Sony sticks to physical media and slam dunks the next generation too. Still, I'm not that scared about old fashioned gaming considering that neither Steam nor Nintendo seem to be going anywhere with this streaming tech.

I was checking the numbers, counted exactly one tera flop on the podcast, performance checks out. Regarding last email - Windows only supports one input at the time, you can't have multiple pointers. I think on OSX the situation is similar, however you can have multiple pointers on Linux desktops, both using X11 display server or Wayland.

Gotta say, when Jeff talked about every game having been played through thousands of times by AI pre-launch it gave me a real "when did everyone get in such a hurry" (from Shawshank) moment. This is absolutely the new technology that I'm just too old to get used to, but young kids now are gonna be completely used to living in a world where everything has been stress-tested and optimized to infinity by AI. It's just always gonna amaze (and somewhat scare) me how we are now capable of mass processing data on that level.

Great another broken podcast. It just downloads a gibberish named file and skipping through just restarts the entire thing. Commute ruined. Now to wait until I get home to watch it.

Injustice 2 didn't have abilities tied to gear, but you did have to unlock them through loot boxes and you were in no way guaranteed to get them for characters you actually used. It sucked.

Supposedly MK11 will have them all unlocked from the start, which is nice, but I'm also just not super into all this customization stuff. I kinda liked the variation stuff in X, but IJ2 was a mess thanks to all that garbage. MK11 might be the most "wait and see" I've been about a game in some time.

I love One Piece, I would say read it, don't watch it.
The anime is OK early on but the production quality becomes terrible and they add a lot of filler story.

Yeah, I'm kind of with Jeff on the dark outlook. Sure, there's a number of things about Stadia that seem cool, but my initial reaction was that it's just another thing removing yet another layer of consumer ownership. Which has already been greatly reduced in recent times.

I could rant forever about how good One Piece is but I'd be wasting my time on these philistines. The fights alone get far more interesting than most of what you see in the DBZ time frame. Still don't know why people think ASG would make those dudes any less pretentious about cartoons. You'd think watching DBZ of all shows would have taught them, things don't just get massively popular on accident.

Really weird that they didn't talk at all about The Division 2 or even give Sekiro a passing mention.
