I don't think Wolfenstein Youngblood has ray tracing yet. Which is fucked since Nvidia advertises that game and it's RTX support a lot. I wonder if there will be a lawsuit for false advertising.

Man where's ths t astral chain quick look? I was told maybe Tuesday but then Tuesday happened and now it's literally one day later! I just wanna see because I'm hearing two sides of this game. I would buy it right now but 720p and 30 fps is like getting kicked in the ass in 2019.

They're so ignorant on Shovel Knight that it's hilarious.

King of Cards is the new and final campaign being added to the game based around the King Knight. It's not a card-battling game, but there is a card-battling mini-game in it.

Showdown is the multiplayer mode that is coming alongside King of Cards. Both were announced last year for the game and got delayed a few times, but seem to have a nebulous December release timeframe at the moment. That's it for the Kickstarter stretch goal content they promised many years ago.

As a new father who also impulse-bought an RTX 2080 Ti last week so I could gawk at the reflections in Control, I have never felt more in sync with Jeff than at this moment.

Anyone who asks "Is [food item] a [food category]?" type questions should go to jail.

I was luke warm before the release and this continued about hour into the game. After that it really kicked in for me and now I really love it.

This RTX on/off comparison was very impressive to me. I played in RTX but in this room I was intrigued to test how it looks off.

Gotta side with Benny when it comes to Control. Absurdly good game, great style, compelling atmosphere and writing, serviceable combat, then there's Jesse slinging one liners as if the game is in any way designed to have that comedic slant.

The distinction between Twin Peaks incidental humor and what the game displays nailed it right on the head for me. Ahti, the threshold kids, some of the bureau agent dialog, the game has plenty of comedy that perfectly matches its tone, Jesse just doesn't, at all.

Very weird decision writing her that way and I'm miffed because there is such a perfect opportunity here for Jesse to be iconic, a landmark badass, instead of interrupting every conversation multiple times for her inner monologue to chime in with a goof troop ha-yuk gawrsh kneeslapper.

Lovely return for Big Jeffrey, banging bombcast as usual, shoutouts to Jabby setting the new bar for PAX.

My most anticipated game of the year, avoided every bit of media I could; I knew, I just fucking knew this was gonna be my thing, and went in blind and it's the best kind of contained single player game I have played in years, the lead for my game of the year. I love it so much for all the reasons jeff and ben outline, and I was admittedly a little surprised to hear Jeff likes it so much, but honestly, Control is so good beyond what I vaguely expected from it.

Video games can be super rad, without the bullshit, every so often. Except for the pre-order outfit, but even that is badass.

Having a blast with Control, don't get me wrong, but worth noting...the checkpointing and the loading screens are TERRIBLE. If you enjoy having to spend minutes walking back to a spot you died in, when another fast travel point is closer, this is the game for you! Also, welcome back Jeff, you were sorely missed.

Serious note, though - cats can fuck up a baby. My dad had a beautiful Persian, worth quite a bit of money and a long time companion, that he got rid of the day it scratched me as a baby. Apparently it was less than half an inch from my eye - I could have had lifelong damage if it had been that little bit higher.

Keep a close eye on the cats, and be prepared to make the hard choice.

I'm not sure why I'm so excited that they talked about TI9. I don't play Dota 2 and I only understand about 20% of what's going on when I watch it being played, but I've watched TI two times in a row now and it's just so damn entertaining. And OG does indeed seem like a cool bunch of friends having fun.

And then I read some of them have been assholes in chat. Sigh.

Okay, so I've tried it for a few hours and I am very pleasantly surprised. The movement, combat and abilities feel extremely smooth and the story grips you bit by bit with every dialog. I've also found a lot of common points with HL2 (which is my all time favourite game) - the mysterious janitor (Gman), the ability to throw objects (the gravity gun), the brutalist interiors (City 17, the Citadel). I'll continue playing.

@sintes: Huh, HL2 is a surprisingly apt comparison that I wouldn’t have thought of until you pointed it out. Man, what happened to that post-2004 era where basically every shooter was either aping Halo or Half-Life 2? Now no games have gravity gun-esque object manipulation, or Warthog-esque vehicle sequences.

I'm around the same age as Ben, also don't know how to drive, and I do believe that driving in video games will translate in a minor way into real driving if I ever do get off my ass to learn. It feels silly to think that, but I think there is merit to it. I'm not saying me or anyone who has driven in video games will be a highly-skilled driver right out of the gate or anything. But it does give some feeling as to what it will be like. It's more preparation than any previous generation would've had, for sure.

Those Tubbz ducks are waaayy better than Funkopops. Like they actually have different facial expressions based on the characters. And they have to get creative at times. Like how do you make a duck look like Crash Bandicoot? How do you make the pants work?

Telltale games is not a ruined brand i think. Like sure, some of these series didn't really work out, but everyone knows what kind of games they are making. That's pretty valuable. Especially Wolf Among Us 2 & Tales of the Borderlands 2 would do great because those games were well regarded.

TI was fun as always, but it did feel like the games were less entertaining than previous years. Especially later on in the tournament it just seemed like Liquid was on a higher level than any opponent that they had to face. Liquid vs EG was the most one sided Liquid vs EG i've seen since the SC2 days. But in the finals OG was clearly dominant. I just missed the crazy 80 min games where EG decides to buy 3-4 dagons on their heroes to take advantage of the lower BKB timings and magically manage to win a series. There weren't many games like that.

After some high profile stories about players being racist in an online game, a guy decided to take a deeper look into the years & years of chatlogs of pro gamers to see what kind of shit would surface. And as you would guess, there's a lot of awful shit that they sling around over the years.
