Part of the problem is that Videl is beat up at great length solely to motivate Gohan, not as part of her own story, so to speak. She's the Stuff that has been Touched.

Fair enough. I don't think that's her only purpose in this story arc, but that's a decent enough point.
I think it speaks to the need for Goku and Vegeta to always take center stage though. It isn't necessarily a sexism thing as much as just the writers/Toriyama playing favorites.
I mean characters like Piccolo, Gohan, and Krillin still fight and contribute in significant ways even if they aren't center stage. Toriyama could have made Videl a Krillin-level character, instead she becomes the "ideal" Japanese housewife. Blergh.
This is exactly what happens to Videl in Super. It bums me the fuck out, but to be fair they have started course correcting with android 18 and Caulifla/Kale. Although the whole "physically imposing woman must be a lesbian" cliche is in full effect.
I don't mind the wrestling tangents and comparisons because they often make for funny bits in the podcast, but this episode was a little bit out of control. There were times where they spoke more about some random old wrestling moment that probably only wrestling fans know about than talking about some good segments of the episodes they watched.
I love how DBZ builds up Kaio-Shin as some super powerful being that is above all Kais but this show has tendency to knock down all powerful beings to eventual weak comic relief. The one constant in this series is that there is always someone more powerful...
Can't wait to see their reaction to Zenou-Sama in Dragon Ball Super...
God yeah all of the Dragon Ball iterations has a number of problematic aspect to them, besides the obvious Muten Roshi molesting women, and Mr.Popo.
As many have mentioned women characters are quickly left in the dust, not being expected to fight at all and / or being made into "obedient / naggy housewife" characters, Videl being one of the more egregious examples, she turns into a completely different character with no agency at all. There are some redeeming qualities later on in Super but it's been bad for so long, keeping the fighters mainly an all male, all white/japanese cast in pursuit of raw strength.
I'd love for DB/Z/S to be better , but it is what it is, and for all those problems it's an endlessly optimistic and wholesome show.
Also agree that there's a bit much wrestling history and terminology thrown around in the podcast, it becomes hard to follow. I blame the Mr.Satan dub.
@mayor_mccheese: I think they might enjoy the some of the stuff coming up, like Vegeta, but yeah, pretty soon we're gonna be DEEP into the Buu Saga and... woo boy...
I had actually forgotten about Daikaioh since everyone just accepts that he's been absorbed by Buu and leaves him there (and then in Super it seems like every other universe has a Kaioshin equivalent but no Grand Supreme Kai), but who the heck is Xemu? I haven't seen any being in DBS that outranks Zeno.
@matthewgm: Majin is another translation of Djinn. But for the most part does not have direct translation. More or less meaning one with supernatural powers.
I don't like the way in which you trash on Yamcha, not sure if the english dub constantly makes a fool of him. But anyways Yamcha would completely beat the shit out or Mr Satan.
Yamcha has the power level of Captain Ginyu (at the very least) after he trained with King Kai. And it is obvious he increased his power level through the Cell Saga.
