Quick Look: Doraemon Story of Seasons

Its always weird to me when the GB crew googles game info, when they have a site dedicated to that information.

Edit: Well in this case i get it, that game page has no info at all.

Man, the strory of season- and harvest moon-games have sucked for such a long time. I really hope that this one is at least a little better

Anyone know if the white vignette border is optional? Is it there the entire game? I don't know if I could play this with that there the entire time.

Back when I first saw footage and screenshots of this I was harsh on it, accusing it of looking like the bad shovelware looking Harvest Moons but I am proven wrong. Seeing it in action it looks super charming!

Between this and the Jackbox video, I'm enjoying this new game of "figure out what embargoed game the crew is trying not to talk about"

@splodge: It is in fact there the entire game - I'm playing on the Switch and there isn't an option to turn it off, and I presume the same goes for the PC. For what it's worth after a bit I didn't even notice it anymore, but your mileage may vary.

That giant Month Spring Day 16 constantly being there is killing me. And the mining looks so much more boring than Stardew? This seems both more polished and less polished, what a weird thing.

In Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons, the scythe destroys crops, even wheat. You collect wheat the same way as everything else, and I believe it gets automatically converted to fodder if you deposit it in the fodder box or silo. That's how it has worked in previous games, at least.

Ugh every time they put one of these out I think "Maybe this is the one they do right..." Looks really pleasant so far

With the whole bag of technology thing, is Doraemon kind of a Japanese Felix the Cat? I never would have guessed.

Don't think I can get past the licensed content in this, but this does make me excited for Rune Factory 5. I hope it'll be of the same quality at least of this. Story of Seasons always seemed slightly off for some reason.

This looks pretty cute and sweet and fun. Too bad I have negative free time with all the games that are out!

I'm not going to criticize @danryckert for not knowing how to pronounce Doraemon. I lived in Japan, have nieces of nephews there, frequently visit and I still can't pronounce it consistently.

So the plot of this game makes Doraemon an isekai....

@kaname: Really looking forward to runefactory 4 switch version as II didnt play it on 3ds. And really excited for 5 when that gets localised. I see what you are saying about the licensed stuff and would much prefer not having that but I havent played a game to scratch my runefactory/stardew itch in ages and haven't really found a clone that does everything I want. I will probably get this to tide me over till the runefactorys come

Woah. A game I would have immediately passed on, but seeing it in action is very charming. A love Stardew. It was a superb game that I spent many a late night on. This game looks very much like that. I may have to get this.

On the embargoed game topic: if it is Death Stranding and Dan's down on it, I don't exactly put much faith in it. Ever since how sour and mean he was about Red Dead 2, I don't get much stock from his opinions.

This makes me more excited for Rune Factory 5. Stardew Valley was my GOTY in 2016, but I still missed a lot of the RPG features from the Rune Factory games.

@meauntienora: There is a whole episode where Nobita ask Doraemon for a device that makes Napping a viewed as a essential skill, like Cooking or driving. And since Nobita is a pro at napping, everywhere and/or anytime (he is a slacker) he starts giving out lessons to his peers.

@zoofame: If this is mediocre, do you have examples of "good" art in this kind of general overhead/iso 2d game? I thought most of it was good and was pretty impressed by the water, grass, and most of the trees/non-interactive rocks compared to most things I've seen.

For Dan to outright indirectly say he’s enjoying this more than an unreleased game, that has to be Death Stranding since reviewers have been playing it and that would be THE game to invoke super passion from Dan. (Can’t imagine it’s something like Modern Warfare or Outerworlds)

November 1st is going to be so exciting to see how this game scores. (Case folks don’t know embargo for Death Stranding reviews lift on November 1st)

This game looks alright! Never going to play it though, because let me play as a lady!

I dunno man, I feel like there have been non-Wrestling related content or QL that has Dan just opening with some quote from a wrestler. It feels like it HAS to have happened.

@danryckert Is the screen tearing from the capture or from the game? , it is really distracting.

@danryckert You actually need to use the sickle to harvest wheat and grass in this. It just have to be finished is all.

The prompt will say 'gather' while the sickle is equipped when those crops are ready. If it says 'reap' the crop you're using the sickle on will be destroyed.

Wow Doraemon is still relevant? I used to watch those cartoons in the 80s.

Not sure if this will replace Stardew for me (I need my kind of creepy "romancing" of the neighbors that probably summons Chris Hansen), but this looks great. Can't justify buying at full price with so much crap on the horizon, but looking forward to picking this up on Switch during a sale.

@sethmode: I think that as more details on what the game actually is have been revealed a lot of people (my self included) have reached that point. It just seems like a really janky eastern european RPG from the 00s without any of the "heart".

@tblockkiller: He's a very iconic character in Japan; where there's still a tv series going on and he even gets a new movie like every year

Ah i rarely comment and i hate to be that asshole but I live in Japan and I just want to correct the pronounciation:

Doraemon == doh-ra-ay-mon

The charactacter here is basically as well-known, if not more-so, than Hello Kitty. Kitty is basically much more popular internationally but doraemon appears in a lot more commericials here than hello kitty.

I absolutely love Dan's budding enthusiasm for my favorite genre.

I bought the remake of friends of mineral town and it just shipped today, hope to see a video on that when it gets released in English! A lot of people consider it to be the best game in the series and I'd love to see what Dan thinks about it.

Man, they need to add an option so the player can turn off the "eehh" shout each time character swings the axe. :-P
