Wasn't it Jeff that was saying his friend went to a rockapella concert and they didn't play Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? It is on an early episode of the bomb cast. I remember his friend said he was surprised no one demanded they play the song then realizing he should of been that person.

The minecart section just made me think of Rocket Knight Adventures which this site is lacking in video content of.

Dan and Jeff have become a great silly combo. They are really funny playing off of each other.

For the record, they made one final Donald Duck game for the Genesis before it died called Donald Duck: Maui Mallard. It was also a great game, but I never finished it.

I'm not saying Encyclopedia Bombastica is supposed to be some ultimate dissection and layered-approach to understanding what a video game is and the interests behind it, but holy fuck.

Playing Quackshot hour, and then the only thing mentioned about the game itself is "I don't know why people are into Disney because I never got into Disney things, but this game was cool when I played it when I was younger, and this stuff is cool because I was too young to know better from other games". That's sort of really ridiculous.

I mean, show don't tell can apply here. No EB has been about the history of the game or whatever, but someone who has a lot of history with a game playing it at a decent level. I'm not sure what kind of information you think is missing here, it seemed pretty clear to me how the game is structured, how it plays and what makes it kinda unique for its time (few games did that kind of "open" world back then).

Seriously. What do they need to go through the credits? Break down the development? The point is pretty much just showing the game off.

If the comments section here proves anything, it's that Disney is indeed for whiny children. Get a grip people.

I'm about the same age as Dan, and I never had cable (so even Nickelodeon was a rich kid's thing to me), but I'm pretty sure Disney Afternoon, where DuckTales lived for years, was on regular network TV (Channel 9 in LA).

Loading Video...

Oh wow, that show was called Disney Afternoons in the US? This was on every friday afternoon on national TV in Sweden during my whole childhood.

The original show also featured our urrent cultural minister's break into mainstream media twenty years ago.

Come to think of it, we've even got a Donald Duck-party in Sweden (not an actual political party, more of a throwaway vote).

Oh man, Jeff, I played a ton of that Bruce Lee game as a kid. I had the Apple ][e version, which I think is pretty much the exact same as the Commodore 64 version but with weird colors. As a kid I would usually die in the first weird waterfall level, but as an adult I went back and mastered the shit out of that game.

No minigolf courses around here, @jeff?! Do I need to remind you about Rohnert Park's hot Scandia action?

They had two price tiers, one for 9 holes and another for 18, but you could totally pay for one and do all 18 because all the apathetic teenagers from Rancho Cotate High School didn't give a shit.

Man... I played the shit out of this game back in the day.

Also at the time I couldn't speak English at all so it was pretty much just trying to figure stuff out by trial and error, like "why the hell did I just end up at this wall with nowhere to go? there's a dude and he's saying something but fuck if I know what it is", didn't prevent me from beating it though heh.

This was fun and it's really interesting to see how little Dan cares for Disney. Disney was just huge in Europe while I was growing up and Donald and Co. were to be found absolutely everywhere. Loved that stuff as a kid, still really like it now.

Also good first show without Drew and Jason.

Dan's confusing Gyro Gearloose, the inventor of the Gizmoduck power armor with Fenton Crackshell who accidentally activated the suit and became Gizmoduck, but I acknowledge that I am not necessarily the better person for knowing that.

I'm surprised I didn't hear that old line about Disney vs. Warner Bros: If Disney is classical, then Warner Bros. is jazz. I don't know how true that is anymore, but it certainly was so back in their heyday.

Thinking about it now, I suppose it makes sense that Disney games were better received by people of a certain age than Disney shorts: Video games are the jazz to other entertainment medium's classical.

Finally a game on this series that I actually played. I don't think I ever got past like the 2nd level though.

I'd love it if they did Comix Zone. I loved that game growing up, thought it was the hardest game in the world and no one ever mentions it any more. That makes me sad.

@guanophobic: Same here in Denmark. It's been running almost* non-stop since 92 to this day, every Friday 7pm. It's become a tradition.

*) It was briefly cancelled in 99, but so many people complained that they were forced to put it back on air

"Are there Donald Duck comics?"

I grew up on Donald Duck comics. As a very young child, my grandmother came by our house every Wednesday with the weekly "Anders And" comic and it was an absolutely massive thing in Denmark that every kid knew about. Being Walt Disney characters, I assumed it was the biggest thing in America too.

Anyway, Donald Duck is not a character that lends himself to video games as he is. Donald is a short-tempered, petty bachelor in a perpetual mid-life crisis. He's the every-man wage-slave who doesn't realize how good he has it, because he's always focusing on getting better stuff. He's also the type of person who is jealous of others success and often will cheat his friends and nephews if he can get away with it (which he rarely does). Because he is so real, you can't help sympathizing with him and wanting him to see success, even though he doesn't always deserve it. The comic books are cautionary tales of what kind of adult you shouldn't grow into becoming.

The classic comics from before my generation went to some even darker places.

For some reason I've always associated Donald Duck and George Costanza. But your description is pretty interchangeable for the two characters.

Yeah, I'm on the same side as Jeff and Dan here: I never understood the Disney fervor. I mean, Disney is OK,... I s'pose. Give me some Loony Tunes, though, and my inner child comes out. Even as a kid that was my preference.
