This game is proof that Nintendo had a soft spot for sadistic level design monstrosities well before they unleashed Mario Maker upon the world.

Also, Jeff you magnificent human being, you broke my brain by showcasing this absolutely insane game. I had to play some Spelunky to clear my mind of this...atrocity, and all I could think was "My eyes aren't bleeding! And it runs silky-smooth!"

Haven't hit play yet but super excited to see the return of Jeff solo streams. :)

Jeff solo content where he just fucks around with MISTer or whatever at home is my favorite content on this site. The man can make anything simultaneously entertaining and chill to watch after a long day of work.

This is obviously janky in a few ways, but I think you need to adjust your emulator clockspeed, dude.

@thainatos: Sure, you can fiddle with settings to make the game run *better*, but that wouldn't be accurate to the PC-88's performance, and Jeff is a history-purist when it comes to his emulators.

This was painful for everyone involved, us, Jeff, the guys that coded this. But just like Breaking Brad, I can't look away.

Was the rapidly oscillating speed of the timer and music and such part of the intended original game or an artifact of the emulator? Sometimes that timer is rippin' down! Other times its just... also really fast but not quite as fast.

The Super Mario Bros. Special title screen always looks sticky to me. Sticky like honey, which I guess makes sense, what with all the Hudson bees and all.

I love that people are bringing up those AGDQ runs of Mega Man DOS by Liz. I think Liz said there's a version of Mega Man X that, god willing, we'll get to see at the summer games done quick?

As for this game: holy crap. The single screen nature of it has to be a technical limitation, right? I sure to god hope no one thought that is preferable to how normal-ass Super Mario Bros. works.

I want to respect what was done here, but sometimes its best not to mess with perfection.

Since Mario Maker 2 lets the level creator control the camera, I'd rather love to see them recreated with the same static screens!
