Bless Jeff for sitting down with an awful game and taking it completely serious for over an hour. That's impressive. That last jump had us both SHOOOK. Like.. i want to see how that jump makes sense. Either it requires a perfect jump or that platform is supposed to move horizontally.

The GALL to completely DESTROY the 1-1 and 1-2 biome, not to speak of the entire damn game! That they'd dare touch 1-1! It boggles the mind! This has GOT to be a Breaking Brad! @jeff

I'd never thought it possible, but this means there actually is a worse official Mario game than Hotel Mario. Thanks for your public service, Jeff.

Feels like this game is what skinny Mario spawned out of.

@jeff Seems there's a bug in that last level of your version of the game. This is how it looked like for you:

No Caption Provided

And this is how it is supposed to look like:

No Caption Provided

The person playing it in the second screenshot took a second to make this happen though, right before that jump there's a swing:

No Caption Provided

But I don't believe there are insane logic triggers in a Mario game.

...right?

So, either you encountered a bug one time, your version is bugged, or there's some insane thing that one has to do in order to progress.

I want to see all of these levels made in Mario Maker 2 and Jeff to play through them with proper controls and scrolling

Since Mario Maker 2 lets the level creator control the camera, I'd rather love to see them recreated with the same static screens!

Not even Mario Maker 2 could recreate scrolling this bad Special.

Actually, someone did recreate Special's levels in Mario Maker 1. It's a much more pleasant way to experience them, with actual scrolling, decent control, etc. Doesn't include Special's unique enemies and has some other compromises, but it's a decent trade off. 1-1 is at https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/359D-0000-0080-762B

funnily enough, similar glitch actually occurs for me sometimes with Super Mario Bros on the NES (or at least, i noticed it on Super Mario Bros 2 on the famicom on MiSTer... so i assume it's a glitch on the original SMB NES game).

for whatever reason, sometimes platforms or turtles (that you need to bounce on) just straight up don't spawn, and you only really notice it when it's crucial and you end up falling into the pit because of it. gotta give credit to Super Mario Bros Special for at least getting something right :-)

"With such responsive controls, uniquely designed levels and the wonderful music by Koji Kondo slightly remixed by the power of the PC, our version of Super Mario Bros. is most special" - Hudson pitch person '86.
