Does anyone else feel like the GB crew has been phoning it in since E3? I love this site, I`m a premium subscriber, I've just been disappointed in my perceived lack of effort.

There isn't much to do or talk about between the end of e3 and the Fall videogame season. This is a regular occurrence. I don't think the content itself has worsened, just the number of really popular or interesting things to discuss. Unless you want several episodes of Pokemon Go talk.

Everybody deserves a vacation sometime. After E3 & before fall madness is the best time.

Before the east/west split they could keep a better rotation during vacation times with some guys out and some in, but now there's no great way to handle it. Chin up, it'll be october real soon!

@brad NMS having ~250k concurrent users on Steam isn't the highest. CS: GO peaks at around 1/2 million concurrent and Dota 2 peaks around 1 million concurrent users.

Still, 250k is similar to what Skyrim debuted at the time so definitely insanely popular still.

I figure I add some details to their eSports/Dota conversation today. Digital Chaos (DC) is owned by an American man and was formed after TI5. It started out as an all american team, but after the big roster change in March added 4 Europeans and one American player. They do all live together in a team house in Arizona. Also, they mentioned having matching ingame "uniforms" for teams. Riot kinda does this for league, where the winners of their World Championship get an in game skin for one champion made for each player that has their team info on it.

TI6 was so awesome, wish I had a chance to run into brad there.

Edit: Jeff also asked if the Chinese style was heavily nerfed, Brad answered correctly that it was, but not the style that Brad mentioned. At TI4 China was not playing a heavy farming style (that was more TI2/3). They were playing what was called death ball lineups, where they would have a bunch of early pushers that would start taking all of your towers by 25 minutes. That got nerfed in a couple of ways: the amount of gold towers gave you got lowered and glyph (thing that gives your towers immunity for a few seconds that you can activate every 5 minutes) now refreshes after a Tier 1 (outmost) tower is taking. Along the way farming style also gotten heavily nerfed as creeps now give less gold and kills give more.

The funniest thing about that whole "Goldberg punching a window and cutting tendons in his arm" is that WCW provided him a small concealed pipe/window puncher to use but being Goldberg he said "fuck that i'll just punch it out".

@cook66: I'm not 100% sure what he was referencing, but I remember reading a kotaku article a while back about chess

Also I think Rorie was talking about the current world champion Magnus Carlsen.

Nice to hear the AM2R mention from you guys. I don't really fault Nintendo for the DMCA either. Even so, I'm sad there couldn't have been a more mutually beneficial resolution. I find it hard to believe that AM2R's existence is bad for Nintendo; I haven't been this ready for an official and proper Metroid (or Prime) game for years.

Anyway, I highly recommend AM2R if you enjoyed Super Metroid or especially Zero Mission. I'm sure the v1.1 is still out there somewhere.

Is it just me or do these video podcasts always have a really low volume mix?

I tend to have to crank my speakers quite high to hear them.

For some reason the volume jumps up much louder after the ad break fortunately, but yeah, as I commented on an earlier Bombcast video, the audio is incredibly quiet (well, for the first 50+ minutes until after the first ad is done) akin to the really low levels that Vinny videos always have.

Maybe I'm not remembering right. But what was No Man's Sky original promise. As I recall, they just talked about how it is made and people assumed what to do in it. So, I agree that it gets boring focusing on mundane tasks and the galaxy is not filled with interesting stuff but I don't think it betrayed expectations or promise.

i kinda wish they hire somebody that's into league, everything Brad's been saying about dota reminds me of the league world championship i watched a couple years ago.

Also while we are on the indie nintendo projects, i'm surprised nobody mentioned pokemon uranium.

@mehrdadkazem87: The impression I got was people were excited for infinite possibilities of exploring fully-fleshed out worlds and galaxies and stuff and that the universe would be shared but maybe impossible to meet others because of its vastness. It's definitely a game that benefited from its mysteries, people's imaginations went wild.

I looked up one of those youtube dealer fails and honestly maybe it was a joke or something but I couldn't watch more than like 20 seconds, the one in the bombcast picture just starts with some person outright verbally abusing this poor girl trying to deal cards, and that made me very uncomfortable the way it started.

There's always a bit of a lull post-E3, but I've really been enjoying the Bombcast and there have been some hilarious QLs.

You guys are right. Maybe I just miss Austin. We need to get another long series like M G Scanlon or a short endurance run to fill this lul. Hopefully Vinievania will keep coming weekly.

Funny thing was that as I was watching this live yesterday and Brad was talking about how no one can play Grow Up online, I was at that very moment playing Grow Up while connected to PSN without any problems. Now after years of being on the other more maligned side of the fence, I finally know what it's like to be part of that lucky 1% that gets to casually say "works fine for me" and keep on playing.

It's a fun game, I like the upgrades. I do wish it was more vertical instead of the more spread out approach they decided to go with.

Performance on the PS4 is kinda all over the place and I wish I had gotten it on PC instead, but I had pre-ordered it on console because PSN had a sale on indie pre-orders and it was the first time in a while that pre-ordering was actually beneficial in some way.

Had to close the podcast in disgust (then open it back up a few minutes later) after the claim that Darksiders "out Zeldas Zelda". Those games are more God of War than anything. The braindead dungeons and puzzles make even the easier 3D Zeldas look like games for geniuses. Like God of War they're trashy stupid fun though.

@kasaioni: Infamous? I don't know that I'd call it that, I'd say the infamous moment is when it switches to Raiden. And I always thought it's pretty natural for a soldier not to waste time shaving their armpits on the battlefield.

If anyone has the same problem Brad had with No Man's Sky -- trying to shoot down a flying species in order to scan it -- try switching to the Mining Beam instead of the Boltcaster. It's hitscan, so it works much better for flying fauna.

Being able to shoot them down to scan them was news to me! I found that if you got as close as possible and used the second or third level of scanner zoom, you can get the scan if you track them for a little bit as they fly. I only think it's reasonable if you're on PC with a mouse, though.

About armpit hair: arm pit is in place where texture stretches quite a lot, so it would be hard to make look good just with textures.

I'm 75% through it, and holy hell the game is AMAZING. Speaking as someone that as a child used to play the crap out of the Gameboy game, and could regularly 100% it in one sitting, under two hours.

I don't know how the laws around this work, but in my perfect world Nintendo would just adopt this or grant rights. It's SO GOOD.

It's interesting in that it becomes less and less of "just a" a port as you play, but the additions are phenomenal, unique to the franchise, yet fit perfectly.

Happy to hear Drew has finally gotten around to trying Rogue System. That's one hell of a crazy space sim.

Absolutely love how you manually shift from battery power to station supplied power when you dock at the space station and stuff like that.

Jeff: "I don't need any of these upgrades to progress in the game. I've never been to a planet that has a hostile elemental environment, or frenzied sentinels, or complex cave systems underwater. I also don't need the mining tool upgrades because I don't mind spending five minutes to mine a single gold formation that I could be done with in 30-45 seconds with upgrades. I'll just run from every hostile enemy I see forever, both in space and on land, so I don't need any combat upgrades either. Besides, if I need any of that stuff I'll just run cheat engine, completely remove all purpose/challenge from the game, and then complain that there isn't enough to do/see in the game."

I think its a voxel thing as well. Which i still find impressive that they opted for voxels instead of pixels like 99% of the games out there.
