I have to admit, I love my Geralt in the games because he's a take-no-shit kind of dude with a heart of gold, but I'm not a huge fan of Geralt in the books.

Geralt two main hangups are that he's good at everything and is supposedly a social outcast that gets laid like good brickwork.

@mashzapotato: He's knowledgeable, but certainly not good at everything. He's rescued several times and is the made fun of on a somewhat regular basis (Ciri and Yen both save his life at different times). He's fatherly, empathetic (the degree of which depends on your choices), dry sense of humor, and an observer. He doesn't have that much sex when you consider the vast majority of which are left up to the player, and it's over the course of decades as Geralt is around 100 according to Vesemir, plus he's ridiculously good looking. All that aside, to each their own. Hopefully Rorie gives it another shot as I think he's one of the better written heros in gaming and it's a damn great game.

Fair enough, I should say that I enjoy the Witcher series. But its for everything around Geralt, the other characters and world that I like the games. Not the dude himself.

Kim Dotcom doesn't run MEGA. In fact, he has shown public disdain for MEGA.

I'll have to check out the DOTA game Brad was talking about, but I really don't see anything surpassing Giantbomb's own Mario Party Party 5 live event.

All this hype or rather anti-hype around No Man's Sky has got me back into playing Rebel Galaxy. Fuck planets I'm busy fucking shit up in space. I get that NMS is going for something different but man that exploration loop looks and sounds mad tedious. Other than that I've been playing the PS4 Ratchet game and that JoJo arena fighting game. For a time that's the best one to be playing video games there are not many games coming up that I'm really wanting to play right away and I've got a pretty sizable backlog as it is. I'm interested to hear how Deus Ex turns out as well as what Jeff and Jason think of the new KoF game next week.

I love Rorie but for some reason he always sounds drunk to me. Not sure why he brings up not playing The Witcher so much. Doesn't seem like a game he'd be into since it's an actual narrative that you're suppose to absorb and enjoy. It's not like WoW where you have television or a podcast on in the background while you grind away. I say play what you want duder, I'll just be over here 'orgasm-ing' about how much I liked that game's styyyyyyyle. Thanks as always for the podcast.

Not sure what sport is "pure" as Jeff described it. Ads are plastered over every pro stadium and those video boards line every soccer field. A tag in a name doesn't seem like too big of a deal.

The reason NMS looks "grimy" is that the internal resolution is locked to 720p. It doesn't matter if you set your resolution to 1080p it renders at 720p and upscales to your resolution.

I watched a few games at this year's International and for someone who doesn't know anything about Dota the whole broadcast has been confusing as fuck.

There are also no elements in place to help new viewers to get into the game at all. The hype surrounding TI6 drew a lot of interested new viewers and the general consensus on social media was that everyone was confused and no one knew what was going on at all.

That's not the greatest first impression for something that wants to be a sport.

Jello shots are good for smuggling. Just make sure they do not smell too strong.

I don't think the video card optimization is the only thing up w/ NMS PC problems. I think it is more with processing the procedural environments.

Alright, I hate to be that guy, but Retro aren't making Recore. They are a Nintendo first party studio, Armature (Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate) are making it and were founded by former Retro employees. That first trailer was incredibly misleading about that whole thing.

The issue is there's a line in terms of readability. Granted gamer handles are already kind of hard to parse sometimes, but putting in weird sponsored clan tags can be confusing to track. It's like if a back of an NFL jersey was printed 'Gatorade Manning.'

The part where Jeff talks about how Dota will never appeal to the sports fans if it keeps being about trees beating up other trees felt weird to me.

As far as i know, Valve isn't actively courting ESPN to broadcast the international. In my eyes, it's more that ESPN tries to get more viewers by adding esports events to their schedule. That's why you see Evo on TV. That's why they picked up people like Slasher to write articles about esports on ESPN.

The audience for Dota is already there on the internet. Internet seems to be a natural fit already for an audience for a videogame because they are literally a click away from downloading / playing the game they watch.

Changing the game to appeal to amount of TV viewers who might be interested in Dota, but never went out of their way to view it on the internet, while turning your backs on the millions of people who already are engaged fans, don't seem to make much sense for me. And sure you could give the heroes team jersey skins, but if the main problem is the game being fantasy, a jersey-wearing dragon will probably not change your opinion.

At some point, you can't have 110 truly distinct characters if you have to restrict yourself to human-like characters that might appeal more to a sports-watching viewership.

What's with Brad explicitly saying Nordic Games is an Austrian company but then two other times saying it's in Belgium?

Anyway, Nordic Games is Austrian, but it's part of and historically tied to a larger holding group that's based in Sweden, which makes a little more sense.
