Man, I cannot emphasize enough to everyone to take care of their teeth and find a good dentist. Your quality of life will be so much better. I was in a rough spot for years where I really couldn't afford health care and honestly didn't always do the best job of taking care of myself and got zero cleanings done. This eventually led to some real problems.

I got a certain amount of work done at a dental school like Dan did. While they certainly helped me with some issues it wasn't enough. Even with the discounted rate for services it wasn't something that worked for me on my budget and work schedule and they eventually dropped me and it was years until I got some repair work done that I really need. I can see now that I would have saved myself a lot of money and grief if I'd gone for cleanings and dealt with cavities much earlier. Even without insurance the money for out-of-pocket cleanings and filling is MUCH cheaper than more expensive things like root canals, crowns, and implants. Don't even get me going on the difference in anxiety.

Also just brushing your teeth isn't enough. Get those cleanings and floss.

And we start off with another great/typical Dan story.

Regarding the ending of Dragon Warrior 1, it did not delete your save if you picked the bad ending. If someone said that, it's probably because they didn't hold down the reset button while pressing power after accepting, because it does freeze the game and not let you exit to the title screen.

Bundaberg rum is rough. Here it's the spirit you buy when you're young and don't know what to get and don't realise how much you're drinking. As a result, myself and most people I know can't even stand the smell of it. The soft drinks that come out of Bundaberg are great though.

Correct that it has nothing to do with cables (for now), but the interface itself does have bandwidth limits which in turn limit maximum resolution and framerate depending on the particular revision of HDMI the devices in question support. Jeff was probably thinking of that.

Think of it kind of like SATA 1/2/3. You use the same SATA cables regardless, but to get faster speeds you need support for the higher version on both the motherboard and the drive. If you've got a SATA 3 drive and a SATA 1 motherboard, you just get SATA 1 speeds.

HDMI 1.4 and below does not have enough bandwidth to do 4K at 60Hz. Only HDMI 2.0+ can do that.

The PS4 (at least the original revision) is/was an HDMI 1.4 device - thus it can't actually output 4K/60Hz, even if it could render that fast. However it's possible they may be able to update existing PS4's to the 2.0 standard via a firmware update, and I'm sure the new models will support it.

@artisanbreads: I know that it means they're working on new stuff and happy for it, but I'm a designer and those kind of visual things out of place tend to annoy me way more than it should. It comes with the trade I guess.

Fair enough. I'm not saying it looks great but this site, as much as I love it, moves at a snails pace to improve anything at all so I take what I can get.

This is the first time I can remember where I almost universally agree with all of Brad's comments on a game (Dragon Quest Builders) and I'm baffled that the rest of the critics/players don't have the same issues with the game that I do. Everything about the execution is either a terrible modern design choice or comes straight out of 1990s Japanese game development template.

• The interface
  • Do you like giant grids of objects?
  • Howabout when they're spread over multiple tabs?
  • Howabout when there's only one 'sort' option and no explanation of what sorting algorithm its using
  • There's no map except an item that you find which you lose after every chapter which gives you a grainy picture with no accurate mapping to the topography you're actually seeing
  • AND an extremely local map that you can barely scroll far enough any direction to use
• The controls
  • Circle to jump, dear god
  • Cross opens the menu, not the options button
  • Cross also talks to people and activates objects, so if you're anywhere near any interactable objects/people (which you will be, because the town size limits are very small) you won't be able to open the game menu until you move further away
  • Triangle to attack....
  • Do you want to lock your rotation angle to carefully place items on a grid? No problem, just use this button combination we don't mention anywhere!
  • Do you want to see a list of controls because you're certain there must be a solution to the control problem you're experiencing? Sorry.
• The combat
  • Oh, you came somewhere close to that enemy while attempting to move around it? DAMAGE
  • Oh, you tried to get close enough to hit the enemy with the pathetic range of your weapon? DAMAGE
  • Oh, you pressed the attack button within 2.0 seconds of the previous time you pressed it? Sorry, we can't process input anywhere near that quickly, we'll just ignore it
  • You got a shield, fuck yeah, time to add a new dimension to combat! Wait no, it only adds passive defense, just keep standing in place and trading swings
  • Hold attack and use your sick new spinning move!!! Wait no, a monster touched you, just stay stunned while the rest of them pound on you for awhile
• Progression
  • Explore the world, you're a builder, collect and build as your imagination runs wild until you create the perfect home in which you and your citizens can thrive!!!
    • Boss fight, new chapter, now your shits all gone
  • Hooray, you've found the accessories that fix some of the games extremely annoying mechanics problems related to movement and combat!!

  • Oh, you found an old broken down castle that seemed perfectly designed to entice you to restore it to its former glory, so you spent a dozen hours doing so!!

It's such a weird, depressing combination of an absolutely magic premise executed with the most utterly baffling design choices. It's a game that's trying to be a combination of minecraft and jrpg, but rather than having a single large world that you continue to explore, build, and populate, you lose everything every time you progress...I can't come up with a design choice that would conflict more both minecraft and jrpgs than that. It's like they gave a 1990s jrpg team the schematics for a minecraft game and told them to make it without them having any concept of what people want in a minecraft game. The people who are playing these games (both builders and jrpgs) are exactly the type of OCD collector/builder personalities that would be most frustrated with losing progress in a game.

I adored the first 4-5 hours I spent with the game, but once I finished the first chapter I became immediately soured on even playing the story mode any further. If I go on, I'll now be thinking the entire time "why should I bother exploring or doing anything outside of the bare minimum requirements, all my effort will go away in a few hours anyway". I'm still interested in the free build mode, but that has its own share of weird design choices also. Man, a few design choices having gone differently could have made this one of the most addictive games in this genre for years.

It's inspirational and awesome but also as someone who was diagnosed with keratoconus last year that email near the end really bummed me out haha. Thankfully I'm a long way from blind but I'm no longer comfortable driving at night so I don't.

I feel like you could monetize these medical stories in some way; put them only in the free podcast as motivation for buying premium!

I'll never support Giant Bomb with a dollar ever again, the way they pander to Hillary Hell disgusts me to the core.

they rarely ever do this, and if you're disgusted by it than by chance you were never a fan of Giant Bomb in the first place. I don't think you know what pandering means since you automatically assume anyone who doesn't share your political view is inherently immoral. You're not morally justified to be outraged, you can disagree with the basis of pulling you're support from the site, but morally you don't have a better opinion than theirs. Or mine, or others considering the political climate of this election.

thanks for answering my game price question! Season pass bundles and the like are fine in my book, but when the deluxe edition ends up not including any season pass and is just skins and xp bonuses thats when I start to feel frustrated. As someone that DOES know i want the premium pass for battlefield, realizing that the deluxe edition comes with nothing but gun skins is revolting.

developers are still experimenting with VR and also still testing the VR market. Add-on VR experiences have a place, especially in this early stage of VR. From a pure gamer perspective, it may not be ideal, but I wouldn't say the general idea is lame.

As a vegetarian who tries (poorly) to avoid cheese, I've never found a good reason to remove eggs from my diet (as long as you know the source, of course). They definitely come out of the butthole region of a chicken, though. Getting rid of honey seems like a stretch too, unless it's harming the bee colony in some way.

You guys always talk up Advanced Warfare and while the SP was very enjoyable the MP left a lot to be desired and ended up being one of the weaker games in the franchise.

I've come to the conclusion that Dan's fiancee is either the most suggestible person in the world, or she was bred in a lab specifically to be the female Dan Ryckert and their spawn will herald the apocalypse.

Man, my mouth is fucked, like is very much the worst part of my life, I'm missing teeth because of an accident and because of my shitty health insurance, no dentist or orthodontist is my area will work with me, or at-least one that I feel safe seeing.
