I love how they talk about base Destiny 2 as if it's a shit game, when it was GB's 6th best game of 2017. And it's not like there wasn't competition to get on that top 10 list.

Also, Jeff is crazy; BL2's classes were fine. Especially because IIRC Jeff has spoken in the past about liking Roland, when Axton's turret stuff is way cooler in my opinion. And Zer0 had stealth melee stuff! Not to say BL1 had bad classes; I liked them as well.

@jasperkazai: I'm also fairly certain that Jeff is talking about Borderlands from the perspective of a solo player. Roland was extremely good in this respect since the turret could draw aggro, heal, provide some limited shielding, etc., while in the sequel I think they balanced the class a little better and Axton's turret couldn't really do *everything* because the skill tree made you specialize a bit more. I remember Jeff seeming personally offended that they would do this to his preferred class, even though it was probably for the best overall that the turret class be less OP.

I don't think anybody is going to change Jeff's mind on Borderlands at this point, even if most players don't share his complaints about the classes in BL2.

Man hearing Jeff say that the best way to play Destiny is just to finish the campaign and stop there is crazy. I'm sad there's not a hardcore Destiny player on the staff to really expose them to the awesomeness that the Forsaken expansion brought to Destiny.

As an official Rhode Islander we did spend all the money on those funny hot dogs. They are called NY System Hot Wieners though we just call the hot wieners and here you go.

I'm still confused what opinion Rich could have had in the Gamespot days that would get him fired several jobs later.

Same. Seem so bizarre.

That E-mail is correct Brad, Sunset Overdrive was game of the goddamn year and the best traversal system ever made until Insomnia just one-upped themselves with Spider-Man. I've been singing its praises since release and I will til Sunset Overdrive 2, which will never happen.

I'm waiting for it to come to PC so everyone can experience its glory.

Somebody should reboot John Steinbeck's 'The Pearl'. Reboot its boring one dimensional ass into the sea that is. Sick burn on Steinbeck.

Wait, they all dislike that the second zone in Forsaken is... actually difficult? This is probably one of my favorite parts of the Destiny 2 DLC - you actually have an entire end game area to explore, and you actually feel more powerful as you get better gear. There was a Lost Sector filled with "??" enemies that I can now clear (although it's still challenging). That's really satisfying, and is something Destiny has pretty much lacked since the launch of the first game. Because, unlike normal MMORPGs, you never get to a point where enemies do basically no damage and you kill them by looking at them in Destiny, it's often tough to feel like you're actually get "stronger" as you get better gear. The Dreaming City in Forsaken solves that issue flawlessly. It's honestly the coolest end-game content I've ever played in an MMO-styled game.

EDIT: All this aside, I do appreciate hearing the perspective of an extremely casual player like Jeff, who only returns to play DLC for a week and then stop. The irony being that the Dreaming City in Forsaken is actually designed to change and evolve over weeks of play, which means Jeff will never experience the full extent of the content, but it is what it is. I'm not a hardcore player, but it's important for fans and developers to remember that there are players who will always be ignorant to what mechanics and content is available to them in the game. I think the onus is both on Bungie and on the player when it comes to stuff like this, but it's tough with a game like Destiny, because a large part of the player base loves when Bungie doesn't explain everything. Being able to explore and discover secrets and mechanics on your own is a huge part of what makes Destiny so fun, and players like Jeff or Rorie simply don't seem to want that kind of game. It's all good, Destiny is definitely not for everyone, as it hovers in a weird genre between full MMORPGs and Sandbox FPS games.

@CastroCasper: It was hard to explain on the fly, but it wasn't a specific comment from my past. More that back in the GameSpot days I often found myself saying "It's really hard to make [this type of game] well." Annnnd I just tried directing and producing that exact type of game and it was indeed very hard! So hard the project was canceled before we finished it. I had a lot of fun leading the team and learned a lot to carry forward into my next role, wherever that may be! Thanks for listening!

@rich: Ohhh, okay! Thanks for the reply! I sounded pretty ominous at the time but makes a bit more sense now. I wish you the best of luck on your next endeavor and hope to hear you on the Bombcast again soon!

@rich Ditto. I never really read/watched Gamespot and only know you through GB, but I've enjoyed seeing the stuff you guys did together from way back when Jeff's had occasion to pull it out, and your appearances here. Look forward to more, and wish you luck.
