This was a great episode, not only because it features one of the best chase sequences in all of gaming (second to MGS4) but because Drew executed everything pretty well.

I'm at the edge of my seat for the finale. Drew will have to press H one last time.

Yah loved this one. Drew was pressing that H button to it's limits.

@TechnoSyndrome: I didn't know Portable Ops was thought of that way. I know that Ryan Payton played a big role in it's development, but I had assumed all story aspects had Kojima's blessing before making it into the final game. As to the Null stuff, it seemed in-line with how the Metal Gear series had, at that time recently, dealt with explaining their modern ninjas. Especially given the way we see Raiden in MGS4.

I really enjoyed Portable Ops, I'd played the Ac!d games prior to MGS:PO and was happy to play something that existed in the canonical Metalgearverse on my PSP. You are absolutely right though about, "Calling to the Night." I listened to that a lot in MGS4.

So was that really how that bike scene originally was? That's incredible if so. I need to play this game.

Man, it's amazing how much Deadly Premonition ripped off the Volgin fight with the fight against the not-so-final boss fight against George, town sherrif and deer-fucker.

Did Drew seriously hit a kerotan with the RPG on that runway sequence by accident?

The only problem with this episode is that the Squares Camo is ugly :P

Anyway this was a ton of fun and Drew is getting really good! I can't wait for the finale.

What I'm interested in is how Drew mentioned he was considering doing some of Ac!d on the Bombcast.

Also isn't it implied somewhere that the Sorrow caused the Rain than killed Volgin? Fantastic ending sequence, my sympathies to people doing no-kill runs.

Next session is going to be super quick, there's hardly anything left.

Man, Dan lovestalking about porn. I hope people send in porn questions to Danswers.

1:05:14 - Drew finally realizes that Metal Gear Solid 3 is a video game.

1:09:20 - "Since this is a video game, I knock him down once and shoot him once." Don't wanna be a dick, but, why didn't you apply that same logic to the 15 hours prior?

Same here. I'm seriously questioning what was Drew thinking for the last THREE SEASONS of MGScanlon.

@pixelsoldier: Portable Ops is just as much canon as Rising is. People just like to dismiss it because they don't like it. There is the joke about it in Peace Walker and such, but they even show a picture or two of Portable Ops in MGS4. It's canon. Even if they change a couple of details in future games, it doesn't nullify the entire story. Kojima actually implied that he was going to contradict some things in his own games with MGSV. Obviously that doesn't mean they are all non canon.

Whoa over in 13 the same as MGS2 and only two longer than MGS1, for some reason I thought MGS3 was way longer than 2...I also shamefully thought @drewbert would be unable to handle the game on "Normal"

Sorry, did Dan never tell Drew there was a lock on button? You just mash square during the entire bike scene and Snake just snaps around shooting people. It looks awesome as hell.

I read the leaked script online - in Season 4 it's revealed that Drew had been replaced by a cyborg. He's been sawing through his plastic ties in the closet for the past two seasons, and the premiere will be full of explosive Drew-on-Drew action. Meanwhile, Dan finally gets his Maxim subscription after waiting the prerequisite 6 to 8 weeks.

Judging by Drews tweet they have already completed the game, but during the part where you have to escort EVA through a couple of areas you can check her food and medical history in the viewer. Which is kinda interesting since you can learn some things about her that you do not get to know until the ending cutscene.

Ocelot is a weird dude, he's probably going to full on kiss Big Boss on the lips during Phantom Pain.

That whole sequence during this episode is the best, and then they (Konami) absolutely kill all momentum with the next section. Luckily the ending is worth it, but jeez that Eva section is way too long.

WHERE does those cow-like shrieks that the shagohod makes come from???? Probably a remixed soundfile of Kojima himself screaming in the mic. That or re-used assets from Jurassic Park?

@dezvous: The events of MGS3 and MGS4 really drop Ocelot out of contention for me.

Volgin is the perfect true villain. He has a clear, ambitious goal and does whatever it takes to achieve it. He looks impressive, is a gigantic asshole, has a cool gimmick and is a dangerous and extremely capable combatant. Not to mention he dies in an awesome way as well. Unless MGSV changes that.

No Caption Provided

He really doesn't have a lot of competition either, definitely not in the MGS series. Only Solidus comes close when it comes to motivations but his whole Dr Octopus + shtick is really stupid.

Liquid Snake isn't even in the same league, he's just a frustrated child obsessed with his genetics trying to measure up to "daddy".

On harder difficulties shooting people in that chase sequence is more imperative, also it's not as hard to control as Drew makes it out to be as i usually headshot most the guards with the 1911 in that scene, the bikes chasing you only the driver needs to be shot so most 'waves' are handled with 3-5 bullets. Knowing when Volgin and the Shagohod can take damage and where also obviously makes repeat plays a hell of a lot shorter.

Am I the only one who thinks its lame that Volgin (may) appear in MGS V. I mean, that death was fantastic and all but considering how often some other characters come back, it could be possible.

What is really pleasing me is how Drew has relaxed and is enjoying the game. In a general sense, he has caught on to MGS3. More of a flow than fighting it.

I'm glad to see that! Dan has been legit help in my book, also.

This ends at the worst part of MGS3, IMO - the EVA escort mission. It ruins the pacing of the finale and is super frustrating and too lengthy. Good luck Drew.

Throwing RPGs at bikes and hugging as you reckon some weird guy is burning and exploding to death behind you. There's some Terminator 1 there too.

Imagine if Sarah and Reese had known the terminator got its leg fucked up when it got run over by that truck. Could've escaped by just walking away somewhat briskly.

Oh no, I'd completely forgotten about that. Did anyone like that part?
