Alright, been wondering what this was. Oh, an MMO...

EDIT: You know, this doesn't actually look bad, I like that it isn't all dice rolls and it's a one time fee.

I like this game. It is fun. Nothing extraordinary, but fun.

You can choose hair and other facial features during character creation, the terrible UI just makes it seem like you can't. Also, power rating is EGO power.

The biggest problem this game has is that it's not very good at explaining itself. after 4 or 5 hours it starts to make more sense, but right out of the gate it seems like a dumb mess. Luckily the basic gameplay of shoot, loot, repeat is fun.

Also, there aren't *really* classes, the class choice at the beginning just determines your starting weapons and clothing. Your power choice is more relevant to your role, but even then there really isn't a trinity represented.

Alphas and Being Human are actually two well done SyFy shows in my opinion. Deviance could be a lucky third, who knows?

@seamuspaxman: I JUST started playing that game again a few days ago. Not the best game, but really enjoyed it then and now.

Feel bad for anyone who pre-ordered this as it just doesn't seem all that good for an mmo, maybe better as a 3rd person shooter but for an mmo I'll stick with something like guild wars2.

Send proper reports instead of just saying shit is broken in a comment thread... I'm using Chrome stable and Canary and have been having zero issues with the giantbomb video player. Mybe 1 out of 50 times it fails to save my position exactly in a video if I quit the browser in a quick fashion.

This is an MMO thing? Everything about this screams Borderlands MMO at me.

I have a strong feeling that there's going to be a Borderlands MMO announced sometime in the next 12 months; and that's going to be a lot like this, but better in every way.

I'm so sure of that prediction that instead of play this, (even though it looks cool) I'd rather wait for that imaginary Borderlands game.

I'd better write all this down before those shrooms I got from Mount Tam wear off.

I very very highly doubt that, Gearbox has never made a MMO before and after Duke Nukem Forever and Aliens Colonial Marines, they're not in a position to be experimenting with MMOs.

I don't know how to feel about seeing my car in a game that is not a racing game.

Too bad they didn't do a raider arkfall, would've made for a potentially hilarious QL.

Anyways, as you start spending time with the game you realize that it's quite minimal in scope for an MMO. Still got decent gameplay though, but it's more because loot-driven shooters is more or less a non-existent genre. Compared to other loot-driven games the shooting is a better gameplay mechanic than your normal WoW or Diablo-style gameplay. However if the game had some good healthy competition it wouldn't stand a chance.

If you wanna be cynical about it, there's quite a lot of stuff in the game that really makes it feel like a rushed out beta to meet a schedule based on the TV series. Especially considering Trion has actually made fully-fledged MMOs before.

Having that said, I've played it for over 20 hours and I'm still going back. I wouldn't really think of it as an MMO, as I'm sure I'll grow tired of it soon enough, but a 30-50 hour loot-and-shoot fest at the cost of a normal game isn't really that bad of a deal.

I sympathize with jeff on the swear words, the "fracking" in battlestar galactica always made me cringe.

Single Player yes. But I mean as an mmo?? f2p seems the way to go. I think it would just be more successful as f2p; more ppl would check it out.

Maybe? This is the standard model for MMOs that actually have a shot at being successful though. No subscription model, and 60 dollars up front. The Guild Wars model.

At least it isn't SW:ToR with it's bullshit subscription and gimped free player mode. That shit is practically insulting.

Literally heard nothing about this other than it's supposed to be a tie-in with a TV Show? Glad it is only a one time fee though. The MMO landscape has changed too drastically to justify a monthly fee.

All of that is standard for an MMO. All this shit reminds me of Champions Online.

I am not hating this. One could say I am having fun with it. I admit it is not a great game but I dunno, I find it endearing anyway.

I'm not a fan of cover based shooters either, it just slows down the action. For something like Mass Effect it's alright, but Mass Effect with Warframe combat could potentially be more interesting to me personally. Actually, just by implementing a button that, instead of making you stick to cover, makes you crouch-walk/run so you would be harder to hit without making it harder to aim. Enemies behind cover would automatically be harder to hit, because their hitbox would be smaller (so they/you could never completely hide behind something and attack or be attacked) when crouching.

I'm not sure if I'm right or what, but the lady playing the "Ego" sounds a lot like Rise from Persona 4.

I love the one side of the head shaved, especially on women.

Those voices at the end, holy shit, it's like something out of a horror game.

@meowshi: Youre absolutely right. Guild Wars 2 is real quality though and you know when you give them 60 bucks, that this mmo will be running for quite some time.

A sequel to a much beloved game with a unique spin on questing / leveling? 60 bucks is great value. But a new syfy series and a game based on it? How long will it actually be around?

To me at least, f2p really seems like the logical choice for this. You get more players in; if they like it, they stay and might even check out the tv series. Win Win, right?

This game actually looks pretty interesting. I'll probably pick it up on sale within the next few months.

Also, a lot of Brad's complaints seem to be general MMO complaints instead of complaints to leverage against this specific game (random loot, microtransactions in a non-subscription mmo, etc.).

@monkeyman04, @vorbis you are both right, she is in fact the EGO voice. I think it's why her constant prattling about enemies approaching doesn't get to me.

Anyone else find it mildly amusing that the navigation lady in this appears to be voiced by the same woman who voiced Rise? Just me? Figured as much.
Does this game have other colours? It looks...drab.
