Quick Look: Forza Motorsport 5

This looks amazing, I was sold from the start. However, when Jeff was 1st person driving the open wheeled car I was extra sold, looks fantastic.

It all goes into the budget for their crowd tech, obviously.

This looks a tad better then when I saw it a month or so ago. Cars look great. Interiors looked awesome. Levels still looked like aliased messes.

The only reason it's continuing is cause there are idiots who patronize this bullshit.

in my limited experience with simmy racing games for consoles i've always preferred forza over gt, but the kind of gross dlc gouging is making me think otherwise.

curious to see how gt 6 will fare (didn't get gt 5 and though i've been itching to get into one thought i would wait)

Top Gear is great. I agree with @seikenfreak that it'd be good to hear about how these games performed with a wheel, because I haven't seen that covered anywhere and that's a pretty big deal to anyone who is a super car nut. That said, I wouldn't say it's "dumb" to play Forza or GT without one, I had plenty of hours of fun with GT4 and that GT5 Prologue thing, using just a DualShock. In fact on Xbone with the Impulse Triggers, even the force feedback you get from a wheel is somewhat replicated.

But, if you're prepared to make the investment, racing wheels are super cool. I've used my friend's a bunch, and I'm seriously considering picking one up for my PC once I have more desk space almost exclusively (for now) to play Euro Truck Sim 2.

The reflection in the car is literally reflecting everything including nicknames and position numbers on the opponents. That is a bit silly. Why would the car reflect something that is theoretically not there?

That has to be one of the dumbest things ever written.

This seems very weird. The music is bizarre, the landscapes and tracks look lifeless, and the driving looks boringly slow. I guess that's probably because I've never been into simulation racing games, but wow that does not look fun to me! Back to Need for Speed!

Also, I find it hilarious that the guys have no idea what Top Gear is, especially since I look at Giant Bomb as kind of a video games equivalent, and Jeff is so reminiscent of Jeremy Clarkson.

Wow, they have my car in the car-roster-thing! The 1990 Mercedes 190E. I'd love to try that out. I almost kind of want this game, now. Naaaah.

It's easier on the performance side of things, much like how the anisotropic filtering is nothing but double buffering so that the track blurs and looks smooth in a nasty way.

14 tracks and only a couple hundred cars? Yikes. Though it won't look anywhere near as pretty, GT6 is supposed to have something like 40 locales and 1200 cars. For as much as I love Forza, this is lacking quite a lot of content (I also think they should've at least given away their launch day car packs for free). I am happy to see that it looks like they've done a much better job with interiors (though that harness in the Nova looked terrible) and added some new paints, I hope they also bulked up on some of the aero kits and wheels as well. This seems totally fine and I'm sure I'd play a ton of it if I had an Xbox One, but GT6 is looking to be more definitively the car enthusiasts game this time around.

Looks good though, 60FPS is a big plus for me. Jeff still using the bumper cam is not :D

This game looks fantastic graphically and I'm into the AI thing assuming it evolves with more data and your skill level. Just about everything else about this game is super disappointing though. I'm having mixed feelings because I absolutely loved the previous Forza games. At the same time this was the one thing that was making me want a new Xbox and I'm glad I don't have that anymore because after the 360 I don't want to deal with Microsoft's Xbox division of garbage anymore.

Those people are definitely part of the Turn10 team. Under the Astin Martin flag is a blonde girl, her name is Heidi and she is one of the lead modellers on the cars at Turn10. I've worked with her before, so totally confirm that!

The frame rate really gets choppy in some spots.

Forza has always been like that, great game out of the box, bullshit DLC and bad post-release support.

I car quite a bit about the cars in my sim games. Seriously though, the intricacy really brings me to those games; it's like a virtual show room. GT really gets this stuff right but their UI has sucked, it did in GT5 at least.

@brad: You said Alex saw Driveclub at e3 and wasn't fond of it. Wasn't that The Crew? I don't remember him mentioning Driveclub.

I am lovin the sh*t out of this game. Bringing Top Gear on board was the best move they could have possibly made for this series. This game + 6 months before I go back to work = me being a very happy gamer!!

Hey @vinny, that backwards hood scoop on the chrome Nova is a real thing. It used to be called the Chevy Superhood and it basically sucks in air in the gap between the back of the "bump" and the windshield as that was supposed to be a low pressure zone and easier to suck air in from.

That menu screen looks just a little bit like Gran Turismo 5's... awesome... uh, thing. xD

Holy crap you still can't skip pre-race voice over!? This has been a problem in the following recent racing games and may extend to several more I don't remember:
