Quick Look: Game Room for 08/11/10

I think I discovered the analogy I've been looking for. Game Room is like a strip club; it seems so cool and it has so much potential, but it will NEVER be anything beyond depressing.

Why do I even still have game room installed? I have no interest in playing old arcade games.  Especially not old arcade games which are shit.  Most of these aren't even arcade games.  These are the games that people don't bother including when they make torrents of emulators.

Every time the dolphin passed through the arrow I expected He Got Game to start playing.

Game Room is showing the slow process that led to the videogames crash of 1983. A lot of shitty stuff at that time. And it's just doing it again to itself!

worst game room week ever? does this spell the end? Usually Jeff has one game at least that he thought was okay, but even he didn't like any of these. i mean eventually even he wont want to buy these anymore. (tax write off or not!)

The Game Room Quick Looks are definitely a highlight for me on GiantBomb every week!

When I was a kid I played the hell out of Dolphin. That game was great! When you are 6... not so much today. Sigh.

i remember Dodge'm, played with the joysitck, don't remember the paddle being an option. 

Dolphin music is reminiscent of Ecco the Dolphin.

Which is in worse shape right now - Game Room or Virtual Console?   
 VC has more awesome games already on it, but they rarely put anything on  the service any more - 1 or 2 games a month, TOPS.  Game Room is still releasing games, but they're all terrible.

I get the sense that the conundrum with Game Room is that they really need to start releasing some games from other publishers and some newer games but they are not doing well enough to justify signing those deals. Therefore they are caught in a death spiral currently. That and the games are too expensive, especially the older stuff. Man Game Room so desperately calls out for a subscription service.

Hopefully the next pack will have something better in it.

I love old hockey games that seem simple then BLAM, someone gets sent to a penalty box.  And suddenly the game's got some mad depth.

Why did they bother with this garbage in the first place?

Dolphin is just an Ecco the Dolphin prequel.

Does the hockey game seriously have three full periods? Who would want to play that game for that long?

I get it. Pay homage to the old school. But really. Why would they give us games that do NOT age well. Its like giving us a stone wheel from thousands of years ago and say, 'remember this? Pay me money, and you can play with this on a racetrack'! In fact, wouldn't you rather have a 1960-70s muscle car to drive around? My analogy of the muscle car can be translated into better arcade games like,  Saturday Night Slam Masters, Alien Vs. Predator Arcade, any NEO-GEO game... I never EVER went back to the peeping dot, or the duck thats supposed to be a dragon when I played the NES or Master System. 

Why do they do this? Was there only one ranked game this week? Why don't they release good games? Judging by these, the gaming industry should have died out years ago.

I am that weird Dolphin fan, but only because I have the original 2600 cart I got from a flea market.

I couldn't fathom Game Room getting any worse than it already was, but here it is.  It's worse.

I really think it's stupid that they don't just give you one atari, one intellivision, and let you cycle out games from it in your arcade, instead of glueing them to an arcade.  that and the lack of cabinet art on konami arcades are what is DOING THE MOST DAMAGE

Screw the Endurance Run, it's Game Room that's killing Jeff inside.

I don't think I'll ever understand the appeal with Atari games. They all seem so...bad. Why would people pay for this?

I would agree except that this is MICROSOFT, they should just throw tons of money at this thing and make it comparable to Virtual Console, but for non-Nintendo games. (I know VC has non-Nintendo games on it too, but not very many.) "

Dolphin looked pretty sweet, actually, especially taking into account what people have said in the comments about the pinging sound and the sea horses. I almost choked on the water I was drinking when he turned around and gave that squid the business. What is that squid's problem, anyway? And how the hell does it keep up with a fucking dolphin?
 
The idea of a squid that is large and fast enough to both keep up with and eat dolphins is pretty terrifying.

You know Game Room is starting to depress me, just ONE GOOD GAME that everyone would go crazy for. I still believe in you Game Room so cmon!

At this point, I think you should consider "Game Room" an Endurance Run.

It's fun watching Jeff's soul die week by week during these.
