Quick Look: Gears of War 3

I wasn´t all that excited about Gears 3, but after this Quicklook, i´m thinking about picking it up release day!

I was going to post this. Yes. There seems to be an issue with the video. I tried it with all versions, on two computers, and a few others I know have confirmed it as well. I tried downloading it and it's still there. I'll PM Drew.

could you guys record the audio for your videos a bit louder? they've always been kinda low, and now that you have super loud ads running before your videos it's extra annoying.

The last couple of minutes really rammed home the shotgun issue.

What issue? To me, the shotgun is the close quarters weapon, the lancer the medium/long rang weapon, the sniper the long range weapon. That is how everyone plays, I don't know where Jeff is coming from here.

This is the reason why I still have my 360. Guess I'm going to pick this up next week with some gold subscription.

I loved Gears 1 and 2 looks like I'm going to have to pick up Gears 3.

You could make the argument that the map design and cover-based nature of the game favour the shotgun/very close range.

The game certainly doesn't contain Facing Worlds or anything.

Shotguns kill people in close range. If you get in close range of a shotgunner with your midrange weapon, don't be surprised you loose.

I'll never understand jeffs "combat rifle or bust" mindset, but whatever, to each his own.

Looking forward to some more gears.

Might actually dust off my near-dead 360 for this.

I completely understand jeffs disdain for the shotgun, but I have played, lets say a fair share of gears.

The "savage" people jeff is talking about pretty much ONLY use the shotgun, just never go near them and if you see them trying to rush you just shoot them with the lancer, the lancer shots reduce the run to a near stop and they go down before they can get close. If they're sneaking up on you then as much as I hate to say it, it because you're sucking. Don't get flanked

The beta made me realise I fucking love the retro lancer, it downs the shotgun rushers in less than a second..

I love when people losing MP espouse notions of "fairplay" because they choose to play an inferior way and think everyone else should too.

Do you have to play as Cole? I really don't like him.

One of the few games that makes me wish I'd have Xboxy, because this looks really enjoyable. Never touched the second one, obviously, but the pc-version of the first one was alright. Though the single-player was a snorefest when compared to playing the campaign with a friend. That was hella fun!

Looks great, but it lost me at Gears of War. I never even played GoW2.

Game looks great. I'm so excited to play every single bit of this it!

I feel like all the complaints about shotgun spam in multiplayer from the last games just don't hold up anymore. From what I played of the beta, Epic made all the assault rifles completely savage to counter that.

Oh Jeez. I feel like you invite an ill-informed soundboard to a video and have the same effect as Brad. 
 
Also, Jeff talking about the conclusion makes me want to avoid the Internet entirely for the next week.

I tried playing GoW1 on the PC few years back and was just bored out of my mind. I guess it hasn't aged that well. This looks really good but I just dislike the characters and the whole setting for some reason. The broiness of the series is off putting to me and it's nice to hear they are doing something a bit different with this.

I feel like putting a price on ammo is a mistake for horde mode.

Are the bots still terrible?

Just one think irks me about this game.

It's brown. Brown all the time, brown everywhere. Brown sprinkled with grey. Even the foliage and the plants look brown.

Sure it's a war-torn area, but jesus christ, that's just bland as hell, and it bothered me with the first 2 gears games as well. I just don't like it when environments all look the same.

Great quick look, going to play this game in co-op with my friend next week so good to see it's awesome

That underground going weapon? Yeah, that one was in Fracture. I thought quite a few of Fracture's weapons were quite cool, bummer that the rest of the game was so... bleh.

I suddenly have an urge to emerge.

I'm curious as to how the average Gears players are playing this. I'll have to wait and see for myself but I was able to easily counter the shotgun rushers in that game. Use that Retro and stay alert, you can down them before they charge at you.

So thats what Brad sounds like during a 49 minute orgasm. I'm sure he needed to change his pants after this.

Warhammer 40k has had a very similar similar weapon called the Mole Mortarsince 1989 I think.
