The game just seems incredibly lifeless and without a personality.

This is simultaneously the most fun I've had with a fighting game in a long time and the most disappointed I've been. That in itself is kind of impressive for all the wrong reasons.

Based on what I've seen, I like this fighting system way more than the previous. Picking the right infinity stone to fit your strategy and switching in your other character at the right time to either capitalize on your combo or outsmart your opponent speaks to me way more than infinite combos that win the match in 30 seconds.

I liked mvc 1 or maybe xmen vs streetfighter the best. MvC 2 was cool too, very fun and fast/chaotic, but 3 somehow did absolutely nothing for me. This looks even less attractive than MvC3 did to me. Some of the gameplay changes do sound kinda interesting but with all the upcoming dlc characters and lacking roster capcom has only given me more reason to wait until the eventual complete edition.

The characters in this, especially the capcom ones, look on par with pre-rendered cinematic characters from 15 years ago.

These graphics look like they were meant for a phone game.

Though honestly I don't think the roster is entirely bad since there are a few of my favorites back from 3 in here (My boy Sir Arthur is back). But overall this roster just looks so safe and boring. Only 5 entirely new characters in the base roster and 5 new characters plus Venom are locked away in a season pass? Really? Otherwise, good to know that this game at least plays quite well.

I think what frustrates me the most about this game is how much recycling is done, especially on the Capcom side. Why is Chris still his RE5 incarnation and not something more modern? Why is Dante still DMC3 Dante? Granted, at least it's not DmC, but why not DMC4 Uncle Dante? It's probably hypocritical since I don't mind T.J. Rotolo coming back for Frank West, but I'm sure that like the other ones it's just that was stuff they could re-use.

Sure would be nice to main my guy Wolverine or play as Deadpool or Dr. Doom OH WAIT I CAN'T THANKS DISNEY.

They have Haggar, but no Guy or Cody? C'mon, those 2 dudes were in SF 4.

I find it weird Jeff complaining that because game has some kill combos means it may be "fundamentally bad". Any FG has kill combos in some way and saying game is bad because of your personal inability to be decent in the game looks more "its not me who SUCKS it the game SUCKS".

I really wish they'd just sell the story mode.

I have no interest in the VS, certainly none in going online, but that story mode seems to be JUST the right kind of corny. X-Gard? AIMbrella? YES. PLEASE.

I wish they'd have the classic bionic commando guy as a special costume.

For DLC I want Wolverine, Cyclops, Gambit, Nightcrawler, Deadpool, Rogue and Magneto.

Anyone else find that the characters a too big? They take 2/3 of the screen making it a bit claustrophobic.

When I look at Hagar, and some of the other characters, all I can think of is a quote of Vinny's from a QL years ago;

'Death to the Tiny Heads!'

Did Capcom fire all of its UI designers? Between this and that Street Fighter Switch game, this mobile app aesthetic is a real turn-off.

Not quite sure why this game exists or who it's for(beyond diehard mvc fans anyway).

Deleting the X-Men out of a Marvel fighting game is criminal. Even if the game got stunning reviews I wouldn't buy it because of some petty movie licensing rights war between Hollywood conglomerates with too much money stuck up their asses.

Also it just looks bad. You can taste the budget cuts.

I haven't followed this game at all, really, but whenever I peek at a trailer or gameplay footage, it's crazy how much stuff looks directly copy-pasted out of MvC3. Dormammu, Thor, Spider-Man -- and I'm sure many others -- all have specials and supers that seem like exact duplicates of the ones in that were in MvC3 6 years ago, animations and all.

I know that the Versus games have a long history of copy-pasting old content (hello Morrigan's MvC2 sprite), but I assume that they weren't actually trying to do some clever nod at that.

I think that even if the models were better and the roster was more diverse, this game would still have a major problem with its art direction. Clearly they wanted to go for something a little more realistic, like the MCU. Fair enough. But that's no reason to make all the colors so muted, low contrast and grey-looking. I took that image and just increased the contrast, and it's already easier on the eyes.

On a different note, while the returning cast looks mostly bad, I think the few that are new look really good. Thanos is a solid wall of a man, and Jedah looks real slick. Makes me want to know how the development on this game went down, because it gives the impression that they either ported over those old guys from 3 or had some not so great freelancers or something make them while they did the new guys themselves.

I have really been enjoying this game. It helps that my two idiot friends also got it and we have been chilling for hours in the lobby beating the crap out of each other. The story seems cool but MAN the character models aren't great. Chun-Li's tiny ass head in the story cinematic makes me laugh every time. Most of the heads are tiny in fact.

Parts of this look like it is a 360/PS3 era game. Maybe I'm just remembering things wrong, but MVC3 seemed to have more flash than this (although that may just be its style).

@redhotchilimist: Going by that simple edit alone I'd say PC version will definitely benefit from use of Reshade.

I picked this game up in spite of never being a huge Marvel fan, and holy crap am I loving it so far. A lot of the gameplay is just...dirty in a way I can really get behind. The visuals aren't where I'd like them to be, but I've always been a Gameplay>Visuals guy, so I don't mind too much.

I was going to ask, "Is Haggar's battle cry seriously 'IT'S ME, MIKE HAGGAR!!'?" - but if you were Mike Haggar, that's all you'd need to say.

@jeff You need to turn on aspect correct scaling in the nVidia control panel. It will handle letter/pillar boxing as needed to maintain correct aspect for games that only support non-16:10 resolutions.

In the nVidia control panel: Display -> Adjust Desktop Size and Position. Make sure "Aspect Ratio" and Perform Scaling on: "GPU" are selected. Yours is probably set to "Display", which is the default, and many monitors don't have built in aspect scaling.

I don't play fighting games... Well, I was going to say 'much' anymore, but it's pretty rare, almost never. I certainly never buy them, but! I would be very interested in another Capcom vs. SNK.

Something about them playing fighting games I just love.

At the end of the day, Capcom is taking people for a ride. And this is coming from someone who was a fans of the Marvel and Verses games since XMen: Children of the Atom. The graphics are mediocre. The roster is bad, most of the characters are returning characters, when so many new ones could have been introduced. Instead, Capcom plans to nickel and dime the new characters with DLC releases. No X-Men, ( and the excuse people love to use for this reason doesn't matter). And the overall presentation is bad, especially compared to the earlier games in the series. The only saving grace is the gameplay which looks frantic and fun.

Lots of problems around the game itself but the core gameplay is aight? Man, this sure sounds really familliar.... almost as if SF5 had the exact same reaction at launch...

I miss Phoenix Wright. His legal barks during each match in 'UMvC3' - along with his explosive approach to reeling off the charges and closing the case (the one built around his opponent, of course) - never got old. Just the right level of specific fan service for me.

The gameplay for this looks alright, though. Shame about all the other stuff (and not just the absence of my favourite Lawyer.)

This game makes me think of those screenshots in Zelda BOTW where someone figured out how to remove the cel shading, but less shiny.

Like, if they added in some dynamic thick lines (no easy task, I know) and upped the saturation, it would improve a lot.

@m_a_x: no he's not talking about ability. he's talking about is it fun to play a game where when you get hit, you die with no other chances. That's not about ability its just about the pace and enjoyability of the game.

man, that Monster Hunter character looks fuckin' cool and I don't even like MonHun games. I might get this when it is discounted and some DLC characters are out.

Not a fan of the character designs at all, especially considering how good they've looked in the past. They look unfinished to me at times. Think I'll pass on this one.

The first time I almost confused a Giant Bomb video thumbnail with a thumbnail from one of my "special" websites.

@aktane: I understand the felling of unable to do anything while getting hit, saying game could have been enjoyable for people like me at a cause make it more balanced and a bit slower is one thing but its still sound like he accusing game for being different and not easy to approach as bad when in reality its a game that hard to learn but easy to master. Im just saying what he calls "fundamentally bad" is still sounds because 'he' can not enjoy the game means its bad not because he can not wrap his head around it.

They're making way too many excuses for this heap. What a disgrace of the property and legacy of the eccentric MVC with this dull, lifeless game that looks like it's from the last generation.
