Quick Look: NFL Blitz

Okay, I don't know football! What the fuck is a late hit?

There are definitely some disappointing changes, but at the end of the day it's still Blitz and it's still fun arcade football.

Watching this quick look makes me hate Roger Goodell. Always taking the fun out of football.

Yep. This game is kind of a bummer. Still considering whether it's worth $15. Might just wait to see if there's an NFL Blitz: On Fire Edition next year.

I can't work out who this game is for. It seems like Jeff is pissed off that it isn't just Blitz '99, and as a massive football fan I have absolutely no interest in playing this, because it's not football. Almost everything Jeff was doing in that game is not allowed in pro football, and for good reason.

The Broncos defence is better than their offence so I think their defensive rating should be slightly higher than it is.

@Foggen: I'm pretty sure NHL 2-on-2 Open Ice Challenge predates Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey. I still play the former on MAME from time to time.

I don't care that they made Tebow right handed in this, but at the same time, I wonder why the hell they did it. Maybe just all the QB's automatically are right handed in this game?

Well then fuck this game.

One of the big things with the original NFL Blitz arcade game was that the graphics were the best I'd ever seen up to that point. A lot of people don't remember this, but that game would attract players in the arcade simply because it looked so darn great. The new NFL Blitz simply looks okay, which--when combined with the lack of late hits and flashiness--create a game that is still NFL Blitz, but doesn't really excite like it should.

I love hearing Jeff talk about Blitz.

@wumbo3000: If you look up NFL Blitz gameplay from the arcade or home ports, you could run into players after a play and do wrestling moves like elbow drops and body splashes on them. There's no benefit or consequence to doing this, it's just fun to see a guy get pig piled by 4 of your guys.

@Foggen: Well, I think the idea with NHL Open Ice being 2-on-2 is that there are 5 skaters in hockey (not counting the stationary goalie, of course) and basketball had 5 active players, and NBA Jam was 2-on-2, so why not the same with hockey? I don't think more players is automatically superior in an arcade sports game.

I want to watch a TNT with this, watching Jeff beat people would be great!

i love the original blitz (99) on my PS1

@Epsilon82: Not automatically, no, but Ice Hockey had 3 dudes per side, therefore that is the correct number.
