Quick Look: Pac-Man 256

I don't play mobile games so i'm interested to see how this version panned out.

It's fantastic. Doesn't really feel like a mobile game at all and I'm surprised how much I've been playing it.

The sound design and music in this game are so damn good.

When you get to 256 on the chain, all the ghosts on the board are removed.

yeah for $5 for sure worth picking up. already put a few hours into it.

This is such an amazing game. Great QL!

I don't know about this game. Sure it's fun, but I personally burned out on it in a matter of maybe two or three hours.

As much as I enjoyed the mobile version, it's striking how much better the exact same game is when the F2P hooks aren't slowing it down.

I might be misremembering but i feel like they predicted an endless Pacman when they were discussing Crossy Road during the GOTY discussions...

didn't know it was on steam, time to pick it up.

Stupidly fun little game. Fairly good mobile port as well (so far). Keyboard controls right off the bat are responsive and work well. Highly recommended game (as I'm sure Jeff and Brad have done here, haven't watched yet though) and its super cheap, with no microtransactions on PC.

I'm actually surprised that Dan wasn't in this quick look, being Giant Bomb's Pac-Man 256 master and all.

And @brad if you're looking for something simple yet very entertaining and engaging to play on a phone, you should check out twofold inc. It's similar to Threes!

Wbat a fun video game!!!!

I played a lot of this on my tablet last year. It's a good game, but on console I'm not sure why anyone would play it over Champion Edition or DX if you're looking to get your Pac Man on.

Still seems like a dull mobile game to me.

@brad: Hey Brad, you mentioned you were looking for phone games? Take a look at Imbroglio - it's a surprisingly fun little tactics game. You move around a 4x4 "maze" - but each tile underneath you is a different weapon with different stats. Kill enough enemies on a tile, and the weapon levels up. It is tense, fun, and has no F2P hooks at all.

Is this perhaps the Quickest Look?

@hippie_genocide: CADX+ was one of my favourite games in the last half decade but I don't think it's available on the new consoles.

Just noticed that Pac-Man Champion Edition DX+ bundle with all skins and music is available for cheaper than 256 on Steam right now.

This game looks ok but real Pac enthusiasts will want to get Champ edition first.

Whenever I plug a laptop into my TV, some of the edges are cut off and I've never looked enough into how to fix that, but it's definitely a thing.

Was confused for why there was going to be a QL of this year old game. Had no idea this was on PC now. I might consider getting it eventually.

Said right after passing two apples on a run.

I was just sitting here grumbling as he kept passing the apples and running right into a ghost or what not. He would have gotten that apple thing unlocked.

@wandrecanada: For the 2.75-3.75ish dollars, Champion Edition DX+ is a steal.

This game is fun too, but more as a mobile experience.

...why now? This game is ancient by internet times.

Definitely not. The Sprint 8 quicklook is 2 minutes 28 seconds.

In terms of actual for really real quicklooks, GTI Club+ quicklook is only 4 minutes 23 seconds. There are actually quite a few QLs under 10 minutes.

Got Bomb, next up Giant. Hmmmmmm...

Wish this quick look were a bit longer. I've been playing the hell outta this game on the PS4. Too bad only one other person on my "friends" list has it to compare scores with.

The phone version had a (I think) $5 or $6 microtransaction that got rid of the lives system, so that's very close to what this is.

As far as new phone games, Imbroglio is out on iOS and it's amazing. It's by the developer of 868-Hack and is similar with a lot more rewarding progression.

I bought this because it was 5 bucks. I had at least 10 dollars worth of fun so far.

I'm glad this is coming to PC as I could never get it to launch on my phone without crashing immediately.

Watching Jeff appear to almost deliberately avoid the apples was pretty brutal. I'm assuming it was something to do with being color blind, but Brad seemed to ignore them as well.

Oh well.
