Quick Look: Planet Coaster

Also I always really loved theme park tycoon games, so this looks pretty cool.

Ahhh , you guys didn't even touch the building options!

Quick look was funny, but didn't touch the building options, which are spectacular, or really show the potential of the game all. It would've taken five minutes to go into a workshop park.

I laughed so hard at Papa Vinny's Wild Bathroom Rave. Also those terrain options are amazing. I'm glad we have decent options for the Simcity folk & the Rollercoaster Tycoon folk in 2016.

Those terrain customization tools sold me. Can't wait to get some time to really dig into this game.

This game gives me a lot of Cities Skylines vibes for some reason.

as soon as i find this game for cheap im going to awkwardly place items and wish i was as creative as some of the other people who have made works of art already in this thing

"I'm Chief Beef and I'm here to say I'll violate your civil rights in a major way" had me laughing out loud.

This game kinda frustrates me with it's extreme levels of creativity, to be honest. Though I admit it's a problem of my own making. I just find it so intimidating to make something decent, and my standards for my own creations are impossibly high. I so wish I had the skill and patience to make some of the amazingstuff that can be put together, but I just don't seem capable of that, and I feel like I'm cheating by using workshop designs, like I'm completely missing the point of the game, or something.

The game says: Do anything!

I say: Oh god, where do I start?!

Consequently, I've played 30 minutes of it, and I think it's the most amazing game that I'm probably going to end up refunding. I feel slightly crazy for considering this as my GOTY given what I've just said, but there you have it: So fucking good, yet utterly impenetrable because of my rather self-deprecating tendencies.

Well done Frontier, and shame on me!

@endsofinvention: Got to agree. Most disappointing QL in a long time in that so much time was wasted doing nothing leaving loads of features unshown. I appreciate that it is the kind of game that is difficult to show, but it could have been way better without expending any real effort.

I'm pretty impressed how this actually let's you place objects over objects. A lot of those games are terrified to have objects clipping through eachother or the terrain. This game actually let's you bury lasers within eyes and put pedastals in the ground. Real neat.

not so much here but in other comment places I've seen people say how this game is "lacking" things to truly build

watch this if you think this game is lacking. Keep in mind this is all individually placed. This had to take hundreds of hours maybe even thousands.

i really don't care much for sim games and have a hard time getting into really creative things like this but something about this game just screams to me to play it but at 44 bucks its too much (the game itself is worth the price, my finances I mean)

vinny's crashed UFO was amazing. I hope he keeps making stuff for this game because we really need to see what kind of theme park they can come up with. Maybe instead of mario maker create a level they should do "create a theme park" stream where viewers chip in to make the most giant bomb theme park imaginable.

there is so much good stuff being made by users of the community that this game is a welcome relief to the world of video games

Fucking LOST IT at "Lockdown" omg.

This game's got a lot of charm. But I don't like how much emphasis is put on scenery. I'm really into the management aspect, but you get penalized for not having your coasters and queue lines surrounded by scenery. I eventually just made a blueprint of the cheapest rock spammed 100x. I place that underground everywhere just so I don't have to deal with the scenery requirements. I've looked through the Steam Workshop and there's some really cool stuff people have built. I definitely use that stuff because I am pretty terrible at designing those things myself. I also don't have dozens and dozens of hours to spend fiddling with the exact placement of every object.

With this game having so much in common with, and being made by the same people as, RCT 3, it's hard not to compare the 2. Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 has more features and more content than Planet Coaster. Planet Coaster has nicer coaster building tools and analytics. It also has much more versatile scenery building. As a management game, I feel like after 25 hours of playing this I've gotten most of what I'm going to get out of it. Pretty disappointing. I was really hoping for this to be my GoTY.

There are some really big comments in this thread, but I'm just sad we didn't hear from Big Jeffrey.

I'm calling Chief Beef for Best New Character 2016. The Idle Thumbs guys had the exact same urge to build everything around him. He's inspirational.

@xrott: Thank you for putting this here. Planet Coaster is an incredibly deep set of creative tools and despite having a few failings on the management side (that I definitely hope will be addressed in the future), i'm having an absolute blast with it.
